Could anyone recommend any none smoking bars or clubs in Dubai or anywhere that has a none smoking section?
Been to Nelsons in Tecom a few times and heard that Bidi Bondi on the palm is smoke free.

Nelsons in Tecom is supposed to be smoke free? Really? It wasn't when I was there 3 weeks ago!

Blends in Address Hotel Dubai Marina has separated smoking bar, so the main bar and the dancefloor is non-smoking.

Forgot to mention the Observatory on 52nd floor Marriott Harbour at the Marina is "almost" smoke free. You can only smoke right at the back of the bar, so if you stay at the front end near the restaurant it's just as good as being smoke free.

Our local bars and even the town bars in our home town in the UK are thriving, the smoking ban does not seem to have had an effect. The pubs may have changed their style to bring in variety of punters, good food, live music, quiz nights, even board games and their giant versions ie jumbo jenga. It was so nice at home to have had a night out and not come back smelling like an ash tray! A few years ago the bars at the Westin were non smoking, and all the smokers went out on the balcony to get their fix, the place was still very busy, but then all of a sudden smoking was allowed inside i now avoid it, unless we have guests who want to go to ladies night. There seems to be plans to bring it in here, but it seems to be taking forever, funny how some laws can be brought in overnight and other take years to become law!

Wasn't trying to "big up smoking" but just suggested that an happy compromise could have been saught. And i do know that in my home town pubs are/were being shut down weekly... Could give links but think its common knowledge. The reason 30 pubs a week are closing isn't just the smoking ban but the ludicrous tax the government charges and the cheap supermarket booze... Ironic that whilst MPs are campaigning to review the smoking ban they aren't addressing the tax increases and brewery tie situation...bit of a smoke screen methinks lol http://www.camra.org.uk/page.aspx?o=294840

Our local pubs are every bit as busy and you can eat food without the stench of fag smoke billowing in your face. Agree that some pubs have suffered but in many it's still standing room only when we pop in for a pre dinner or theatre drink. Smokers in many have covered areas elsewhere in my neck of the woods. As I said previously our local has become more of a wine bar serving local ales with food and is jumping most nights of the week with the weekly quiz night drawing people of all ages. We used to hate going into pubs because of the smoke but these days we are frequent visitors which we enjoy visiting with friends. Theatres do serve vino.... You could drink there before the performance. Not trying to aggitate you...But pubs/bars are for everyone..... My last trip back to Uk .. Said places were so cold and clinical..Without the "essential" bar dwellers... No agitation experienced and depends where you choose to drink :). We prefer to use the neighbouring eating and drinking venues before going to the theatre as we prefer the ambience of the less formal bars. Plenty of atmosphere there and in our local places. We have 8 pubs in our little town, 2 of which are very much men's bars while the rest serve food, drink and banter aplenty!! :D We also found local pubs down south equally good to visit during our narrowboat holidays, plenty of friendly chat there too. Can't speak for big city places as don't frequent them apart from our theatre visits to Edinburgh or Glasgow.

I know what you mean, the UK pub scene is terrible nowadays and your Husband is right. However I do like to go out here reasonably regularly but am severely put off by the smoke. I found a club recently that I really liked and loved the music but the smell, stinging eyes and tight chest/bad throat have completely put me off. A happy medium req?

Do understand what you're saying girls... BUT... UK introduced no smoking in ANY bars and so many have closed down! The anti smoking brigade pushed for it... Fair enough... But they are not using them now they are smoke free... Pubs in UK are shutting by the day and people who wanted an indoor smoking room are just buying drink and staying at home... Cheaper but they lack the social scene...And folk who wanted totally smoke free bars are ...Erm... Still staying at home and buying cheaper drink!! The answer would have been to have bars that serve alcohol but no food with a smoking room...And pubs that serve food no smoking...And thats from my hubby who is so anti smoking you wouldn't believe....

I find that even if a place has a none smoking section like Nelsons I still suffer and have to throw my clothes straight in the washer!

Someone told me that places used to be none smoking but I didn't believe. That's a real shame, I remember when the ban came in in the UK it was like a breath of fresh air!!!

The Hub JBR is smoke free. Time out did an article awhile ago, don't know how accurate it is. http://www.timeoutdubai.com/gallery/18950-10-to-try-smoke-free-bars?image=6 edited by Dally on 31/07/2011

Thanks for the info! is it just me or does it feel like a big step back when places allow smoking? I quite like coming out of a bar and not smelling like cr*p! here, here - what is also so annoying is that so many places here can't get their ventilation systems sorted, so when inside these so called bars/clubs, it's like looking through a cloud! Urgh :( They tried to bring it in a few years ago and so many places lost so many customers they brought it back in
