Hi All! Just wanted to share that be cautious while shopping online. Specially when u r to sell somethng. Its being noticed that fake paypal ids are created by scammers when u place an add to sell something online. Scammers generally contact u placing the higher amount than demanded by u and ask u to send it through courrier to them along with tracking number. When u do that they send e-mail (Service@PayPal) which is fake that user account (the one for buyer) has been debited and u r required to send the shipping details to them. When u do that as well, u will get further notifiication that "we appologize as there is some charges left to be paid to complete the transaction and buyers account has already been debited for this, hence u pay by Western Union urgently to so and so person." Even when u do this they want to eat more and more money.
Ladies please be aware DON'T Respond to such mails NEITHER the wire transfers as they are SCAMS!
Wanted to share this info so that anyone should not be a victim.

There you go, as I have said before even if it helps just one person. Yesterday had another call from a fellow from India trying to 'help' me with my computer, as they had information that it was at risk. I had a bit of time so led him down the garden path for 15 min. He was instructing me step by step and I pretended to follow his direction but obviously he wasn't getting the required responses on his side.In the end I put him out of his misery and said I know what you are trying to do and get access to my personal files. ' Noooooo madam I am only trying to help you I am calling from Texas ' yeh right .......

This post really helped me.. beware, the scammers seem to be still at it, so it would suggest the scam works for them and that atleast some people are still falling for it? In response to my Dubizzile ad, I have an 'Allen' who first sent me a txt via SMS4YOU - so I dont know the senders number, which basically said can I send an email (to a gmail account) with final price. Then in response to my email, I got a mail saying asking me for my PayPal account to transfer money to as 'he' was too busy to come and inspect or pay, and I am thought the same as some of the responses below - ie what harm can it do - but then I looked it up to see if it was a scam and found this thread. So when I responded saying I would come and collect I got a response saying PayPal is the only way acceptable to 'him' .. Bumping this up for someone else to benefit ..

I "think" the scam is: 1 buyer wins bid 2 buyer requests PayPal as payment method 3 dodgy buyer sends seller message saying "money now deducted" ((this money is held by PayPal until buyer receives product and confirms correct product/that product arrived) 4 seller sends product, awaits buyer confirmation to PayPal that product arrived so PayPal will release money into sellers account 5 dodgy buyer sends second fake email from PayPal saying "oops, sorry, error, other party over paid, we will still give you your money, but you need to give the overpaid amount so they are not at a loss" Dodgy buyer can't lose - they now have the product, paid nothing for it, and still have a chance at making a little cash if fooled seller transfers money in the belief that transfer of little money will mean the release of the payment Seller now has no product, no money and an email saying "wanna gamble? This could be legit in which case the money will be released and you weren't just totally scammed, OR this could be dodgy..." And as people trust PayPal they may lean towards the "surely PayPal couldn't be hacked, if I just pay this, I'll get my money" side. The fun of buying online, dodgy scammers! That's it exactly AA. I had not done any buying/selling on our local site for ages. A couple of weeks back I had stuff I wanted to get rid of and put it on the site. The amount of scammers that replied was unbelievable, 20 in total. A good idea when advertising on the these sites is to take a few minutes to read the warnings that the site itself puts up.They monitor the latest trends in scamming. To the OP thanks ;), you are just giving people the heads up.I did it once on EW with info from a trusted friend and got shot down for my trouble. Hopefully your warning will help some to take a second look and as AA's post explained how the scammer does it. N edited by Nomad on 10/08/2012

Ah, that makes more sense AmyAus! However, unless it doesn't always work the same in every case, when you get a message from PayPal to say that the seller has paid, you would check your account to check the amount has been credited and only then send an item out... Paypal releases the money as soon as the buyer has paid and then if the buyer doesn't receive the item he opens a case to get his money back, it doesn't go into a "holding" account until the buyer confirms he has received the item. At least it doesn't when you buy / sell with PayPal on ebay. Very strange!

Wanted to share this info so that anyone should not be a victim. I am also confused! If the buyer's account has already been debited, why would you pay any extra? If there were any charges that hadn't been covered, surely that is for the buyer to cover and not the seller?! Also, if you are selling something and the person wants to pay with PaylPal, why would you then pay something via Western Union?! If there was some problem, wouldn't you just contact PayPal and ask them how to sort it out...? Perhaps MotherF you could clarify?

Did I miss something? I mean honestly, I have never heard of anyone PAYING money to the buyer and if you do fall for this you must be terribly naive or just plain stupid...:\:

You are selling something, they request money, and you send it? Sorry, paypal works in the reverse or am I missing something? Yeah! Its like when u wanna sell your cell phone (let's say) and u place an add on classifieds (even on expat forum or any other online site like dubizzle.com or souq.com) The scammers would contact u to buy that item and would recommend u to use paypal for them to send money to u (pretending that they are abroad and want u to ship them the said Item) and ask for your paypal ID so that they can send in money. Since paypal is considered secure so people generally get trapped because it's not actually paypal that wuld be involved; rather its scammers who are behind..... So simple rule to remember: "When using paypal never be trapped if the buyer of ur item wants u to send money via western union (by saying that there is some problem crediting your paypal account so u r required to send money to the buyer on so and so adress and we will Credit ur account once the issue is resolved). well you would have to be retarded to send money to someone who is trying to buy your product...... do we need to be reminded to breathe as well???
