also any idea why we can never smell the flowers unless you stick your nose in them? we planted them where we sit out but theres never any scent day or night. thank you

Two types of Jasmine plant here, one smells one doesn't. Plant will burn and drop but should come back, no full sun for summer.

OK, well I might be completely barking mad even trying to answer this question as I am presently in Australia, but my experience with Jasmine is that while it does like sun, it's flowers will last longer if it doesn't get the sun direct at the hottest part of the day. It also needs humidity. I don't know if this is achievable in the dry heat of Dubai. You could try misting it with water on particularly hot, dry days, but that's a fair bit of effort to go to. It also likes the soil to be moist, but not too wet. Is 30 mins of drip time twice a day enough? Don't know - maybe go out and feel the soil at different times during the day to see whether it's retaining the moisture. If you notice the topsoil is dry, make sure you give it a decent drink - either extra drip time, but not just fluffing the hose over it for a a minute or so as the water will simply evaporate. Hose watering is best done in the early hours or late evening when it's hot or it can burn the plant. Give it some decent organic mulch to protect its roots, stop the soil from drying out too fast and encourage growth during summer. As for the flowers not smelling unless you are up close. Could it be that the plant is still immature? For a lot of plants, the perfume does not really take off until they are older and more mature? The only other thing I can suggest is did you buy it from a nursery? If so, I would give them a call, tell them the symptoms and ask their advice. Our nurseries here are usually happy to help as it means you'll be back to buy more plants from them. Maybe just ring on a weekday when they're less busy. Good luck!

Sorry fairwater bumping for you as I have the same problem. The leaves on mine are turning crunchy brown. I think its because they are in pots in a courtyard and the sun just bakes them. The other jasmine i have in the garden twining up the gate post smells gorgeous although the flowers on that drop off pretty quickly but the gardener doesnt appear to do anything with it apart from water it. I do know they like to grow upwards, trellis, wires etc.
