Question about hiring part-time maids.

Hi ladies,
Had a lovely Ethiopian lady knock on our door asking if we needed a part time maid. We would be happy to hire her on a part time basis but I wanted to check on the legality of this. Is it legal? She said she lives a few villas down the block from us. Am I better off hiring through an agency? Thanks in advance. :)
