If you use your points to upgrade do you not get tier miles and points for the ticket you've bought?

If you have bought the ticket you get the miles/tier miles you "purchased". In other words, if you upgrade, you don't get the business points if you paid for economy and used points to upgrade to business. If you are "buying" the entire ticket with miles, I don't think you get anything but clarify that with Emirates.

The way I understand it, if you purchase an entire flight using points then you won't get any tier miles or skywards points at all. You should, however, get tier miles and points as usual when you buy a regular ticket, but no further miles/points should you chose to upgrade that ticket using points, if that makes sense? :)
