Anyone know if you can transfer an etisalat sim to a new owner? Mine is in the name of the person at DH's office who originally bought a job lot for the whole group. I don't want to lose my number but I can't register if it's not in my name. Any ideas? Thanks.

Dh and have had numbers for about the same length of time as you. You can always tell an old timer by the number:-) It's annoying to have such a run around cos someone entered the info incorrectly. Who's to say it won't happen again as there'll be so much to input at the same time???

Can you go to any Etisalat shop in a mall or does it have to be the main Etisalat office near the Dusit? Thanks in ab dabs it can be any etislat shop ie in the malls not the main office which i believe it says in the papers you can do it anywhere. Thanks Bb. I suppose we should just go and get it over with. I find it all a bit annoying though as we've produced id each time we've had a new sim. I think the problem has arisen with places like carrefour giving free sim cards with phones and then not keeping the id copies or forwarding them to the relevant authorities. thats it exactly..... car4.... i had bought a sim card for one of my boys maybe 4 years ago, each renewal i would go into etislat and pay the renewal, only on renewal no3 i noticed that the name had changed on the receipt etc, they had only put down the wrong information... looked into the name it was a guy like 10 years younger and from lebanon do i look like i am a man and come from there.... nope.... anyway obviously whoever inputted the information had put in wrong, the dates were like out by a month too, so it wasnt just a pile of forms that were mixed up... long story short i had to go many times to the office here in ab dabs and basicially sign a piece of paper saying that sim is mine and i am responsible for it etc...... but when i did the forms we just left that the boys sim cards are in my name and my hubs and my number are under his name, no point changing them really, as when we leave he will have to cancel them etc after i have gone. i dont think its the free sim cards, its the fact that people cannot input data in correctly, and in the past as a woman you werent allowed to have sim cards etc in your name, obviously now its much easier. my number is like 15 years and my hubs is like 16 years old. am told they are worth a bob or two apparently. edited by busybee2 on 26/09/2012

we did ours the other day, havent had an sms to tell us, but thought would get it over and done with, as we have been here a long time, my hubs has his number and my number registered against his name, and i have the numbers that my kids use under my name, so he filled out the form with his 2 numbers and i filled out the form with my 3 numbers (had to get another sim card a few years ago, as i had been renewing my wasel line for the previous 2 years in etislat office each year, on the 3rd time of renewing i noticed that this time it was registered under a different name, so whilst it was being sorted out i had to acquire another sim card, in order to get the other sim back into my name i had to go to the main office here in abu dhabi and just scribble a letter saying that i take full responsibility etc for the sim card... etc etc and so it was fine)

I know that they have the new rulings in place for registering but before this.... there was something on the form whereby you can transfer the sim card into a new name.... I did this when I transferred the sim from the company account into my own name.... they just had to sign the form to say that they were happy to transfer and then you submit the details i.e. passport copy etc.... the only thing that they could not transfer was the roaming so if there is any roaming on it, that has to be debited back to the original name and a new roaming put down on it.... i know you can download the form off etisalat website.... it is just a normal form for obtaining a sim card and the info is on the back.... hope this helps :-) Yes thanks so much. very helpful.

yes you should be able to transfer, if you have the owner of the sim card go together with original id and it should be easy, if not in the past you have to write a letter of declaration saying that you are responsible for this sim card etc etc

In a Gulf News Q&A with the TRA in July, it said: "However, with the TRA new campaign a number of procedures are being introduced to facilitate the process of transferring the SIM cards from the actual owners to the actual users." So I am hoping that if the owner AND the user can produce IDs, they will be able to register the card in the user's name. (Hopefully the person in your husband's office is still around, nancynibs?) Link: http://gulfnews.com/business/telecoms/campaign-to-curb-misuse-of-uae-phone-sim-cards-1.1047116 (YES, I know these things change a lot and there is often conflicting information out there... but still, I dare to hope.) Thank you Tartiflette, yes I can get hold of the original owner, I also dare to hope haha. Cheers for the info.

I went to DU recently as all simcards have to be varified, had to produce ID card to prove it was in my name. You might find they will cancel it as it is in someone elses name. I think Etisalat are doing the varification of sims as well Yes you are right, they are doing the same verification, and yes they WILL cancel my number :-( which is why I need to transfer it to my name.
