ITALIAN SUIT SCAM IS BACK!!! This incident happened to my fiance today, 14 April 2021. This happened when he was about to left at the parking area of a commercial building in Business bay at 1:00PM, when an Italian looking guy with Italian accent, approached him, maybe on his 50's or 60's, wore a descent business attire. Since he is working as a coffee supplier (Italian origin) they just discussed about it since he claimed he is an Italian. Afterwards, he mentioned about the branded suits he is selling "EMPORIO ARMANI COLLEZIONE" and even handed his business card, he came by the name of Antonio (Manager). He keeps on insisting him to buy it for 1500 AED only Buy 1 Take 1 because he is about to go back to Italy for vacation and he wants it to be sold immediately. He keeps on bugging my fiance to buy it and convinced him to pay whatever amount he has in his pocket. Good thing he only got 230 AED in cash, after getting the cash he quickly put the suit in the back of his car and left. He informed me and realized he was scammed after he checked the suit. The fabric is not as nice as other branded suits he owned before. So, I tried to send them an email as per his business card and the email bounced back to me. I also learned that this Italian suit scam has been here in Dubai since 2010 (as per some forums/groups I found on the internet) I hope you can help me to disseminate this information to the public for the awareness. Thanks guys

If someone is dumb enough to buy suits from the back of a car they deserve to get scammed! Lol! My boss actually got sucked into it and we spent months laughing at his ill-fitting suits. He actually wore them?! *_*

DH was stopped by a guy with also an "Italian" accent who asked if he could sell italian jewellery for him as he doesnt have a residency visa and his tourist visa ran out.... He said they would give him a commission of the sales if he would do so. That was at Marina Walk a few months ago. DH said no thanks. Will inform DH of the suit scam too... Wonder why they are always "italian"? edited by Appletiser on 04/06/2011 I'm curious too. Are they all really Italians? Or they are just using our nationality to sell? Although it'd be hard not to realize they are not Italians...

Staying at the Armani Hotel and dressed in Armani suits? Must have gotten the Italian accent through sheer osmosis. Seriously cant picture women picking out Louis Vuittons (even fake ones) out of the boot of a car.

They're still on the prowl! DH just got stopped on 2nd December Street. The usual, on way to airport, just finished a 5 day conference at the Armani hotel in Burj Khalifa and have lots of designer suits left over that they don't want to send back............blah blah blah These 2 were in a white Kia 4x4. Warn the husbands :)

Plus I did have a giigle at this: 'At the very least, these chaps are selling fake goods without a trade license.' - erm so you can get a trade license to sell fake goods can you? I don't think so! Just because certain shops in Karama do it, doesn't make it legal! In fact the only difference between these chaps and Karama is they're selling out the back of a car. No different to your DVD lady then really. I was trying to join 2 issues there - lol - selling fake goods and selling without a license.

don't get it. So how come some people are being asked to buy a 3,000 Dhs iphone in exchange, while others get them for 350Dhs! edited by Chocs01 on 05/06/2011 You bargain them down, that's how. Well then how are they actually hurting anyone? As you say, a bit of an overreaction really. My point exactly. And just to add, my DH's colleague who got his three suits for 350dhr says they are still looking good after six months and two dry cleanings..........which cost more than the original price! And, all you have to do .......is say no! edited by Livelytrish on 05/06/2011

We just got stopped by these two guys at Spinneys Town Centre in the Springs. Same story - they want to give away surplus stock in exchange for an iPhone from the shop. Hubby said he didn't have the money and they suggested following us home so we could get the money and then go to the store!!!! They are driving a white Toyota Rav 4 with Abu Dhabi plates: 28155. Did you report them to the police?

I don't believe there's any such thing as a "harmless scam" - the perpetrators are invariably attempting to sell something to someone who doesn't want or need it and indeed mis-sell the item, so they aren't being honest from the start. It's not really even a case of caveat emptor because invariably it's unsolicited. The victim invariably parts with more money than they really want to and certainly more money than these rubbish items are worth. At the very least, these chaps are selling fake goods without a trade license.

Actually, a business colleague of DH ran into this scam in AD two months ago.......... walked away with three suits for 350dhr.....and they fit. look good, even if he only wears them twice. he said it would cost more to have three suits dry cleaned in NYC - so seems to be a fairly harmless "Scam". It's not as though anyone is actually losing anything, so why the urge to 'report"? edited by Livelytrish on 06/04/2011

Happened to my DH yesterday near Union Co-op and Choitrams on Al Wasl Road. Asked for directions to airport and started off with a quiet "italian" accent and as the conversation went on it became very exagerated and animated. He was throwing his arms around and using his fake Italian accent ...DH thought it was hysterical and quickly left the scene!!

Same story happened to my husband today! At Spinney's (next to Jumeirah mosque). Two guys asked directions to Emirates Towers. To ''thank'' him for his ''kindness'', they offered him a free designer suit (!). My husband having no interest whatsoever in fashion, declined their offer ;) If anyone is interested in buying italian suits, here's the infos on their business card!
