Hi working and full time Moms,

Great day to us. As a mom of three kids, I just want to share some constructive and effective approaches to help our children to have ease in doing their homework. How much time do our children need to spend on homework? As a mom who wants the best for our children, is doing their homework the best solution?

Homework let our children practice skills, prepares them to learn new things and expands on ideas introduced in class. We should encourage our children to do their homework and follow a 10 – 20 minutes time in accomplishing each homework.

We can also help them by creating for them a homework station and teach them how to use a homework planner to organize and manage their time.

These three-point “check” system can also help a lot:

1) Check in. We check in with our children when they come home from school to see if they have homework, what it is and when it’s due. This would also give us a chance to talk with them about what support and supplies they may need. It also let them know that we think homework is important.
2) Check up. When we check up on how our children’s doing, it means we are close enough to answer questions, brainstorm solutions and encourage them. If our children need our help through the directions and steps of their homework, there’s nothing wrong with sitting down with them to work through his problems. Sometimes, though, our children may want a little space to make it through on their own.
3) Check over. Checking over means looking at our children’s homework when it’s finished. Our job here isn’t to fix mistakes, but to point out if our children haven’t followed the direction, if they missed a few problems or if they made the same error over and over. If we’ve been checking up, though, it’s not as likely that they’ll have done their whole assignment incorrectly before we notice it.

It’s also a good idea to keep in touch with our children’s teacher and be aware if our children are very diligent in complying with their homework. The success of our children, is always a parents’ pride.
