Hello ladies

Please can you recommend GOOD Schools in Mirdif which uses the british curriculum. My daughter will be going into to FS1.

Word of mouth is so much more reliable than getting a list and not knowing anything about them. We are moving in August so i think I'd better start contacting them now in case they are closed over the summer.

Thank you!

Sorry what I meant is if you plan to stay in Dubai long term then you may wish to consider that school as they have a reputable secondary attached to it. It is very close to Mirdif, just as you enter Sharjah. Kids from our compound go there, but no idea about arabic and Islamic education there. As said below mine are at RDS, but it doesn't have a secondary attached to it as such, which can I am finding cause problems securing a decent school for them.

Also if you plan to stay Sharjah has an attached secondary which is a huge plus! It does have a fabulous reputation. No I won't be in Sharjah, we will definitely be in dubai. As for Sharjah English, although I've heard great things, I'm sure I've been told they don't include the islamic teaching as part of the curriculum the way other schools do. Being Muslim, I'd like my kids to know about Islam and learn Arabic if possible. But thank you for your input x

It's not Mirdif but Sharjah English School isn't very far from Mirdif and is British curriculum and recently deemed to be 'outstanding' by two independent inspections. My son goes there and it's got a very good reputation, non-profit, well established since the 70s and has great facilities. there's a school bus if transport is a problem. Get in quick though, as it's a smaller school and places get snapped up. It has a separate foundation building for FS1 and FS2.

Another RDS family here, we are very happy. Pop in the school forum and read there about GEMS RDS and Star, both Brit curr. There are other schools in the area but they are not British curriculum. You could look at Uptown (IB), Mirdif private school (Think IB), Mizhar American academy etc.

Mine are also in RDS which is about an 5-10 min drive depending on where you live in Mirdif and traffic etc. I like the school. It is British curriculum. I think from what I am aware of you'd be lucky to get a FS1 place at this stage. Other options if you can't secure a school place for FS1 is to wait list for FS2 and put in a nursery that offers FS1 equivalent e.g. emirates British nursery which takes kids up until 4.. Not quite FS1 but teachers are qualified with Cache 3 and British/native English speakers...just incase that is an option you have to consider.

The only school actually in Mirdif that runs the UK curriculum is Star international school. If your little one is going into FS1, I would thoroughly recommend it as the Foundation facilities there are excellent. Both my kids did foundation there. However, the primary school has had many teething problems, mostly caused IMHO by the management of the company that owns it. There have been leadership issues and facilities issues. Along with many other parents, I have moved my kids to another school. We are now at the Uptown school in Mirdif. They run the International Baccalaureate - and we couldn't be happier with the place. They are moving to a brand new campus with all bells and whistles in September also in Mirdif. Most of the folks I know here in Mirdif that want the UK curriculum send their kids to DESS.

Only one I've heard of is Gems Royal Dubai School.Don't think it is a UK curriculum as some kids move from there to DESS. Several kids at my DD's secondary school (UK curriculum) went to GEMS world and I haven't heard any grumbles. Lots of people drive afield to schools so you don't necessarily have to restrict yourself to schools in Mirdif. There are other schools within a 20/25 min drive from Mirdif. My laptop won't let me cut and paste just now but on this website there is a comprehensive list of schools and what they offer and which curriculum along with their KDHA ratings. If you check old threads there should be info as well. i assume from your posting that you found accomm in Mirdif. I remember you asking re accomm previously. edited by Feefmick on 26/06/2013

Hasina - I'm sorry but I have no info on schools in Mirdif. You should be aware that a lot of schools break up tomorrow although I guess most will have some sort of admin cover over the summer. Yeah I thought as much so am trying to get a list together to contact them.
