I am totally up in the air about this one . It has been suggested that we get our children tutors to help them get higher grades in their exams but with cost at around 10,000 aed per year per subject should we just be letting our children achieve what they are capable of without the extra tutoring and push the schools to do a better job if they want to be seen as a better school . I am at a point where I feel my child is being put under too much stress to perform for her school and she is at apoint where she is saying I have had enough of education ! Opinions on the subject would be much appreciated .

I would agree, unless it is subjects that your children need and want to get top results in to compete for say a particular University place or qualification then no, take the pressure off them! The school should be doing their own job properly and for general exams there should be no need for extra tutoring, unless as mentioned, it is at a stage where they are competing for future places in further education - then it becomes a whole new ball game and should be instigated by the childrens desires, not the schools. Just an opinion, good luck! Education is such a minefield!!!!

I don't know, I would have wanted my parents to do everything they could to make me successful - you only get one chance at life, right? But maybe your kids are picking up on something else, that you don't find it so important that they do well in school? Try making it clear first with set study times and an emphasis on their grades and see if it helps, if the money is an issue.

I think you've answered your own question really. Why does anyone feel the need to push their children to the extreme? I agree they need constant encouragement but not to the detriment of their well being. The world has just lost a man who was an innovator in the technology world and brought us products most people have owned or used - he never graduated from college.
