This is something I've suffered with all my life. The best things you can do are make the muscles around the spine strong through exercise and when it starts to niggle, see an osteopath to ease it and realign the spine. If it's only slight, surgery is probably a drastic action to take. Try and make everything you do ergonmic, to keep good posture. The worst thing is when compression of the vertabrae causes confusion in signals to the surrounding muscles and causes them to tighten and spasm, then it can get really painful.

Unfortunately I can't recommend any good DVDs as I only go to classes, hopefully someone on here can recommend you something. You might even be able to find exercises online?! If you do ever get the time you must try out some lessons I think you'd benefit more as you have a specific problem you want to correct.

Thanks Demerara Yes, I think pilates is a good exercise. I enjoyed the gym but since getting my part time job then starting my safety campaign and looking after the girls, I don't seem able to fit anything else in. Can you recommend a good DVD at all?

Hi Redlesley, If you or your dh are really worried you should go and see a specialist but from the sound of it you've had it for a while and like you said it's slight. You'd be surprised how many people actually have curvatures of the spine and don't even know it. I'd highly recommend you doing Pilates. I've had 2 surgeries to correct my curve which have helped but I still have a lot of pain, I've recently started (roughly 2 month) and it's been really good. I already feel the benefits and it's been helping with muscle pain. I wish I had done it sooner. The person who invented Pilates had scoliosis himself and the exercises improve your core stability, posture, muscle strength and flexibility. Swimming is very good for strengthening the muscles too.

Well you could go down two routes, one would be to see an orthopeadic surgeon specializing in spines and the other would go to one of these sports rehabilitation type clinics here and see sports physios, sports massage,an Ortho surgeon linked to the practice and go under a regime created by a team. Posture and keeping the muscles around the spine strong combined with flexibility exercises maybe a way to help. There are a few of these opened in Healthcare city and there is the one on beach road. The one on Dubai eye the other day sounded quite good during the interview, i found the chap very interesting to listen to, i think that was called Symbolis, or something like that.

I have a very slight curveature of the spine - it's never bothered me before and to be honest, I never even knew it was there until a friend told me at a dance class years ago. (I don't look like Gillian McKeith put it that way!) I do have a muscle pain though and am not sure if I just need a massage. My dh wants me to see a specialist just so we can maybe get regular check ups to see if it is worsening or anything as time goes on. Any suggestions or advice on who to see? I don't need surgery or drastic action, just someone who can advise me. TIA
