Wanted to start cooking brown rice but got overwhelmed at the options. I know it takes a bit longer to cook brown rice but was wondering if there are any tried brands that anyone has had good experience with.

Hi I've been buying the brown rice from spinneys for a while now, it's good quality and even my daughter loves it. I am not too sure, but i think there is only 1 type of brown rice that spinneys stocks. It comes in a clear plastic bag in two sizes. The product is made in sri lanka. Tastes good and smells wonderful when cooking.

Thanks all, this helps! Beebers, were you able to find the rice in the bulk section? edited by Chi2dxb on 02/11/2012 Yes, that particular time I did. This is at the Carrefour at MOE. I would assume it is a regular item there. ETA: I think it is 6.50 dhs/kg and it is not long grain. edited by Beebers on 03/11/2012

Every time I get attached to a brand, it disappears! Recently was using the Green Valley brand. No brown rice in sight last trip to Carrefour, then it dawned on me to go the the bulk section where they have pulses. I swear it's the same thing. Organic would be great, but can't shop Organic all the time. :)

I buy the brown rice from the Organic Shop which is nice. I also keep a pack of Tilda ready made brown rice in the cupboard, ready in 2 minutes. Great if I don't have time to cook fresh.

Don't "Essential Waitrose" do a cheap brown rice? I love brown rice but the rest of the family refuse to eat it. Have only managed to convert them to wholemeal pasta so far..

I buy from the organic foods and cafe in Dubai mall. It's usually priced at Dhs. 42.50 for 4.5kg and if you buy on the 3rd Saturday of every month, you'll get 20% off. It's organic brown basmati rice and it's good.

that was another reason i didn't rush into buying them! so expensive, i thought it was just a spinney's thing and was going to look elsewhere, but i guess carrefour doesn't have much either :\ anyone else have any luck? i'd still be willing to try a bag if i knew it was worth it!

ah ok... seen those too but was hoping that the somewhere someone would consider selling brown rice in larger... and not as pricey as spinneys.... there seems to be every other type, style and size of rice at carrefour but no brown :( And if memory serves me well... 20dits for a small bag of rice is a little too pricey.... dont understand why it's so expensive... i mean less work is involved in selling the final product! just one of those things :(
