My daughter's school has recently launched a scheme called BOYD (bring your own device). This entails parents purchasing a laptop which their child will be allowed to bring into school on a daily basis and which will be used during lesson time. I understand that modern technology needs to be used in schools but my main problem with this scheme is the length of time my child will now spend looking at a computer screen! Can anyone provide information of their experience with laptops etc in their child's school. For your information, this scheme has just been rolled out to Years 5 and 6 but is also used in Years 7 and above.

Me neither. I think it's a terrible idea. And I often think it's just a way of school saving money too when they are being greedy.

They used them quite extensively in my sons school. Ipads and laptops (he had to take both). In year two they took them to French and Arabic lessons as well as doing topic work and maths on them. I felt that they did far too much work on devices and not enough writing. When he got to year 4 and 5 though they definitely worked less on the devices and more in their books. Im not a fan of BYOD at all.
