My daughter has been battling with acne for such a long time now, she is very keen to try roaccutane, after trying virtually everything. I have read all the posts on acne and roaccutane and am not too keen on the idea. I did a few searches on the internet and found a site which recommends vilantae as a natural alternative.

http://www.vilantae.com/australia/accutane.php

Has anyone heard of this treatment? and do you know if it's available here?

Not heard of vilantae before. I am Just in my last month of roaccutane out of 6 months in total. Best decision i made and have beautiful skin now. However If i was in your shoes knowing what i went through over the past 6 months i would suggest to be very careful. Side effects are different for everyone but i had a very emotional phase that i dont think i would have been able to deal with too well as a teenager. All the stories on youtube were helpful to fully understand what the tablet was doing with my mind. I suggest if you do decide for roaccutane you sit down with your daughter EVERY DAY and talk about how she is feeling. Am happy to have a chat with you to tell you more in detail what to expect. Email me to ckokolores if you like (@yahoodotcom)

lol hillsbills, the OP probably doesn't mind the idea of dampening her daughter's libido (I'm assuming its a teen)

I had teenage and adult acne for years and years (hereditary) and the only thing which really worked was Diane 35 or Dinette which is available here without prescription. It really works, but for me it also dampened my libido / s. ex drive and made me put on weight etc. I finally got sorted with the help of an excellent homeopath and have been acne free for around 7 years now. edited by hilsbils on 01/07/2012

No idea about vilantae, but as far as your daughters acne, the very first thing would do is put her on the contraceptive pill Dianne/Estelle. This in itself will probably make a huge difference by balancing her hormones (it did for me). Generally you have to go on the pill to be prescribed roaccutane anyway so you might as well start with this. It takes a month or two to really show an effect though and probably 4-6 months before you really see that it has made a big difference. With Roaccutane they used to prescribe really high doses for a short period, noways most dermatologists prescribe much lower does, so the side effects are way less. The one other thing she could consider is a dairy free diet, probably this in conjunction with estelle/diane Please do take her acne seriously, and don't um and ah too long. The effect it has on your self esteem lasts far longer than the acne itself. I wish I had gone on the pill sooner and not had all those years of feeling ugly. Estelle was a life changer for me, suddenly I was being complemented on my lovely skin, it took me a while to believe people were serious.
