I have a South African Passport, I will hold a visit visa for the UK but can I travel to France on the same visa or do i need a seperate one for France?

Want to visit France for one night only and probably travel by train or ferry.

TIA

My South African friends in the UK have always needed a separate visa to go to France (one was turned away at Dover trying to go to a wedding!!)

Hi Candyfloss, As far as I know the UK is not a Schengen country so I assume the UK visa you have is not a Schengen visa and would therefore not be valid for France. But that's strictly speaking for Schengen area travel-it is possible that a UK issued visa is accepted under different rules. Better check so you are not turned away at the train station or border....
