So many people from the UK emigrate to go to australia in search of better weather and life. I note there are many Australians in Dubai. I was wondering why you would move from Australia to Dubai?

Expats in Dubai can buy a property easily. All you need is a residence visa or a residence permit. It is an easy process by Dubai government to live in Duabi.

We moved to Dubai for a few reasons... - Husband changing career at 35 and wanting to embrace the opportunities in his field in Dubai. After 5 yrs there, he now has a job here that would have taken 20 yrs to attain if we had stayed here in Aus. - His salary was enough for me to stay home with the children and not work. Had we stayed in Aus I would have had to work as each child reached 6 months, and we probably would have only had two kids. Cannot imagine life without my little Charlotte! - Travel and cultural experiences. Until I travelled, I believed the gov't guff saying that Australia is a multicultural society. Now I know it ain't. Sadly, we're not even close to being a multi-cultural 'soup'...we're more like a lasagne with each culture sticking together doing their own thing. Like lovely DL said below, compared to the epic journeys available from Aus, there's just so much to see only a few hours from, Dubai. There is nothing like the Aussie lifestyle...outdoors in fresh air all year round without ever [u'>really[/u'> sweltering or freezing. :D I agree with the other Aussie girls...Aussies carry a lot of home with us wherever we go and we almost always get lucky enough to come back here. :D

No Tax. Better than DH losing 1/2 to the govt. Love listening to people whinge about how hot it is! Live in Nth Qld and you will know what hot is and humidity. Closer to rest of world to travel without it taking over 24hrs to get anywhere .

We love being Australian, yes we've got a beautiful country, but there are many beauties world wide and because Australia is so multi-cultural we hear about the beauties of the world from people from other countries so while Australia is aesthetically beautiful, it's 'being Australian' that is held close in our heart, no matter where we go. 100% this. *thanks Amy*

We are still paid in AUDs and pay tax in Australia, so for us, it's for the life experience and having the opportunity for both us and our kids to mix with people from other cultures and backgrounds. Yes, Australia is lovely, but it can be quite parochial as it is so distant from the rest of the world. For example: Muslims have got a lot of bad press in Australia over the last few years, so one of my prime reasons for coming here was to enable our kids to learn that just because someone is from another religion or culture it doesn't mean they don't want the same things as we do, feel the same way as we do etc. In Australia, their school is pretty much pure WASP. Over here they have friends from all over the world and I love that. There are kids across 78 different countries in their school now. I hope that it will mean as they grow up they won't necessarily take the generalisations, stereotyping and dramatics of the media as gospel and instead think for themselves about the people they have met along the path of their life and judge people on their own experiences of them. LIKE!!!! x 1000000 (except the bit where you pay tax. That part I 'unlike' !)

Money Cheaper of cost of living in Dubai than Australia Escape a socialist government that doesn't encourage working harder- 47% personal tax Proximity to the rest of the world for travelling Money Career advancement Did I mention no tax? Better quality of life Money

Hi bubbly1234. We are Aussies and we are proud of that. We love our Country and all that it stands for but to be honest life just does not revolve around Australia. We came here to Dubai with a great job prospect and an open mind and with that as a starting stone we have built a fantastic little life here. We love Dubai, it was a struggle at first, like with so many people but once we settled and we were open to the diversity and all the different elements that life has to offer for not only adults but children alike then we knew that our decision was a good one. There are certainly little challenges that make living abroad harder but in my opinion and for our family Dubai is offering us something special and we look forward to spending many more years here. I like the fact that our kids are growing up as Expats, I see this as a remarkable opportunity for them to develop so many skills on so many levels and broaden their horizons. If they were to grow up in Australia, they would not be exposed to many things that they are fortunate enough to be exposed to here and whilst there are certain things that are not always necessarily a positive thing here, I really don't think it is going to hinder them in any way, shape or form providing we as their parents do our job correctly. Just my little take on it. SH

My OH came for the job and money he was offered. We are going home now after three years and can't wait. We have enjoyed most of our time here but have had some bad times too, we're looking forward to home.

Australia is a wonderful place, but for us, one of the major reasons was to be geographically closer to the rest of the world. We love travel but once you've seen Asia the rest of the world is sooooo far away. Due to cost and time we used to do a big trip every year or two. Now we do lots of little European breaks and are seeing much more of the world.
