they are both the same company so they will work anyway in the uae. even though they are same they do different packages/rates. some buildings will only be 1 or other other.

Does Du offer coverage in Abu Dhabi? DC LOL yes of course. They are both national carriers so offer as much coverage as they can across the UAE. I poersonally have just always found Etisalat to be better. OK thanks. DC

Well you only have a choice of DU or Etisalat, for me Etislat has always had better coverage. But if you say you're planning lots of off-roading to the back and beyond, it might be worth investing in a satellite phone.
