Dear all,

Im really worried. According to my LMP i should be around 8 weeks, but when I went to OB this morning she can't see anything just the sac. Although its just a brief scan and she scheduled me for a proper U/S in radiology dept. She did mention that normally we can see more than in 8 weeks :-(

Does this happen? I am not full bladder as I did not know I will have a scan today, and it was a small machine in her office. Am I just worrying for nothing or is there something I need to be worried about? This is my first pregnancy and TTC for 5 years so all I think about was this.

Please advise.

Thanks.

I was told to have a scan at 6 weeks and they did not see a heartbeat OR a fetal pole. I spent 4 days in tears, went back in another 4 days time for a further scan expecting bad news of a blighted ovum, only to see a healthy heartbeat. My sister did not see a heartbeat until 7 weeks. Did they see a fetal pole with you? Seeing that is a positive sign, also, are your HCG levels doubling or more over 48 hours? That is another positive sign of a viable pregnancy (if you aren't sure you could ask for an HCG blood test then another one after 48 hours to compare). My advice is don't read too much on the internet - it can really wind you up and make you so very upset. It is an agonizing wait though, it is awful and I really do feel for you. I hope the 7th brings you good news, if not, don't ever give up hope - some of us have to travel a longer journey than others, but they key to baby success is to never give up! x

I find it strange that your doctor did a belly scan at 8 weeks. No proper doctor would do a belly scan at 8 weeks as you will never see anything. It always has to be an internal one at 8 weeks. Perhaps use this time to look for a better doctor? You dont want to go through your whole pregnancy with a doctor who is clueless and even worse to deliver your baby too. I am wondering if your Dr doesn't have all the right equipment, As Asti says, it is strange they didn't offer you an internal after the belly scan. With both my pregnancies they have been able to see both the baby and the heartbeat via belly scan at 8/9 weeks but both times the Drs explained that they would try the external first but didn't expect to see anything and would then do an internal, and it was just luck (or the shape of my body/uterus? that meant they didn't need the internals. I find it a bit irresponsible of a Dr to leave you stressing like this if they could have done an internal scan to avoid it. edited by kiwispiers on 30/06/2013

Im actually not thinking of not going back to her and I have another schedule with another doctor. I hope Ill be comfortable with this new one. Thanks

Yes it was only a belly scan in the doc's clinic. I'll have my "proper" ultra sound with the radiology dept by 7 July. so praying that all will be fine. Maybe im just overeacting with this situation. Thanks Ladies for your wonderful responses.

Wish you all the very best! I got pregnant after 14 years of infertility and treatments... when I went for my chk doc did internal scan and confirmed I was 8 weeks pregnant. So worhtwhile to wait for a week and then ask for an internal scan where you will be made to hear the heartbeats too...

Which hospital did you go ? Considering that u r only 8 weeks, you should have an internal scan as the belly scan can't show much. Do you have the pregnancy symptoms? I suggest that you should go to another hospital/ clinic where there is a good doctor n they have good ultrasound equipment. Would be useful to wait for 5-6 days before another scan as there can b a lot of changes in 5-6 days during pregnancy. Best wishes for ur next scan and hope everything goes well inshallah.

Was this a belly ultrasound or an "internal" one? I agree with TDB 100%. If you scroll through a couple of pages on here you will see a number of similar threads. Very few women have textbook 28 day cycles which is what the doc is basing the "you should be 8 weeks, we should see more" statement on. I'm honestly not even sure why they do scans so early here in Dubai as a matter of routine as it seems many women end up in the situation you're facing--most needlessly! Sending you best wishes for a better outcome from your follow up scan.

You poor thing! Over 70 views and no responses! At 8 weeks you should probably see something. However not all pregnancies are the same nor are cycles. I was 8 weeks pregnant but could only see the sac. Doc said I should have a d and c. A week later saw a little baby with a healthy heartbeat. She is now 15 months old! Wait a week and see what happens. The waiting is awful I know. Thinking of you x
