I had my NT scan 5 days ago and my scan was excellent . They collected my blood and told me the i'll receive the combined result in 4 days.
They called me yesterday to inform that i am at high risk (1:80) . I am 30 years old, scan was good..i am very stressed, don't know how to act, what to feel..:(

They recommended invasive test...I'm worried of a possible misscarriage , what if there was an improper handling of my blood? where they send it, how was the conditions of transportation, should i trust the blood result or repeat it again?

I know that at Fetal medicine center- Dubai healthcare city can give me the result within one hour, do you recommend me to repeat it, or to proceed with Amnio..??

And where to perform my Amnio? any advice?anyone did before Amnio with Dr. Pour mirza ??? feedback please..

ladies..many thanks for your advice..As it is clear, everyone is having different opinion based on their personal experience. Alismum: links that you posted are very interesting..we contacted some references and i;ll update you soon. ScottishGal4: sorry for your bad experience at FMC, i didn't want to mention name of the center, but i was Dr Georges patient, and i used to be happy with him, but my wrong blood result came from the laboratory where they analysed my blood unfortunately. It is my right to think that it is my WRONG BLOOD RESULT especially after i notice that on my report , it is mentioned: blood is collected on 26th of September, and analysed on 30th of September....It means they performed it after 4-5 days delays!!!!!!!! and based on online research, this blood test in very sensitive. i visited Dr. afshin at FMC for another opinion, i am still 13 weeks so he was able to repeat my whole test, scan and Blood (i got my final result in one hour), and my final risk is 1: 12380./.which means low risk...we were surprised, it is a huge difference, scan result was the same, but blood changed my whole risk. it was a big relief for us..even if honestly we are still a little bit confused. What i appreciated the most is that Dr. Afshin didn't give any bad comment about the other clinic, he was so professional, he is a real expert. They explained my report, and being positive, but still they explained to us that is an assessment, can;t confirm without genetic tests. They explained all details and left the last decision for us,to choose if we are happy with 92 % accurate result or if we want to do Amniocentesis (especially that our scan was confirmed good with Dr Georges and Dr. Afshin). This is what happen ladies. Now i am little bit more positive, my hubby and i decided to wait for next scan at 20 weeks . Fingers crossed...thanks for your support

Hi, Only 2 clinics are highly recommended to perform this procedure in Dubai. One is Fetal Medicine Center (Dr. Afshin Pour Mirza) and the second NI9E clinic (Dr. George). I was at a high risk as well after the NT Scan and went to Fetal Medicine Center. Dr. Mirza was really good. he explained what the possible consequences could be and alleviated any fears that I had. The procedure by itself was not as painful as I thought it would be. I was asked to rest for an hour or so and then they sent me home. I would highly recommend him. I know the thought of a miscarriage is scary but if you really want to ensure that the baby does not have chromosomal abnormalities, I think you should sun up the courage and go for it. Goodluck!!!

hi mybaby2012, i had a amnio a couple of months ago after finding a cyst at my 20week scan. When i did my downs screening everything came back great but at 20weeks FMC changed there tune and pushed me to do a amnio, repeatedly saying you could be that 1 in 15000 with DS even though no other abnormalities were found. I personally didn't like there attitude at the time and didn't feel that they were giving me enough info for this type of procedure. I went to the N9NE medical clinic and saw Dr George.. He was amazing. Fully explained the situation and made me feel in safe hands so agreed to do amnio with him. My procedure went very well. No cramping or side effects. It took a total of 3 weeks to receive all the result. DS result only took 1 week.. Thankfully all my results came back normal.. The only advice i can give you re the amnio is make sure you feel comfortable.. Im sure this plays a part in the process, DH and i were set against amnio but once we went to N9NE we felt so relaxed we were happy to go ahead. Do whats right for you and don't let anyone push you into the procedure. Have a detailed scan and see if there are any other abnormalities such as shorter than average femur length, nasal bone not developed. good luck with everything, hope that helps. amen. dr george is amazing and i wish, oh how i wish, i had gone to him first. fmc was a total waste of precious time that i could've spent enjoying my pregnancy. good luck x

hi mybaby2012! i fully understand your feelings. you don't need to be more confused with different opinions from "not so experts" but rather get a second opinion from the best in the field. I have had a first hand great experience from Fetal Medicine and Genetic Center as well as some of my friends whom I referred contrary to ScottishGal4's own experience. They have 2 Specialists and depending on your preference (male or lady Physician). Either of them will give you the best care and will give you the full information that you need. As mentioned, it is still your own decision. Best of luck and keep us updated.

What week of pregnancy are you? I was reading that a brand new blood test for Downs syndrome has been produced which is highly accurate (not the nuchal scan). I wonder if it is available over here, perhaps some of the others would know. http://www.news.com.au/lifestyle/parenting/new-blood-test-for-downs-syndrome-lowers-the-risk-of-miscarriage/story-fnet08ck-1226464556503 http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-2197881/New-blood-test-Downs-lowers-risk-miscarriage-Screening-accurate-safer-babies.html Sorry I can't help you with the amnio, hopefully some of the other ladies will know. edited by Alismum on 01/10/2012
