Hello Ladies, Wow looks like a lot has been happening with all of us getting closer to our due dates! Lucy 111 I also had another internal exam day before at 37 weeks and even I am 1 cm dilated! Baby is doing fine but she is still high up and head is not yet engaged so some more days to go before she arrives!! Not too thrilled to hear about this CGT monitoring though...which hospital are you going to? I have not been told about any of this at all so am a little concerned as I wouldn't want to be on my back the entire time! Moonbeam good to hear everything is going well with you and baby...it can be very disconcerting to hear anything negative at this stage! All the best to us all and hope everyone does fine and has a great delivery and a healthy baby :) Tanya

OMG Lucy111! I had my appointment today to, She did not say anything as yet about the vaginal exam, maybe it will come up next week when I see her (I will be 36 weeks then) Wow you already 1cm dilated, gosh not long now, how you feeling about it all? But here is the strange thing, she did a quick scan on me and said there was a problem with my placenta and the blood supply to the baby, she refereed me to the diagnostic center downstairs to have a in depth scan. I go down there in a panic thinking oh my gosh! so get there and I had to pay over a 1000dhs for this scan, the lady that did the scan was confused as to why I was refereed in the first place. Anyway she did it and confirmed that all was ok. In some sense I was glad because i would rather be safe then sorry, but a small part of me was like 'huh what is going on here' one doctor is saying this and another is saying something else. I think in terms of the nursing staff, you have to be quiet firm in terms of what you want and what you expect, they really cant force you to do anything you don't want to do especially if it's not really endangering you child's health. The last few nights I've been having dreams about my labor ending up in a c-section, which I really don't want, so after today's experience, its made me a little more anxious. This has just reconfirmed to me that you do need to be firm with them. In the UK i was free to move about as I wanted, and was only strapped when they needed to check my sons heartbeat, then after I could move about again. I want that this time around too. So like you Lucy111 I also intend to stay at home for as long as possible. Just to be on the safe side, I have packed mine and babies bag. I am getting really anxious about the birth thing now...

Hello May ladies, I had my appointment and internal exam this morning - not too happy with the experience. Apparently I'm already 1 cm dilated at 36.5 weeks, which is fine... Then I mentioned casually that the baby has not been moving as much as before (obviously because he hasn't got as much space!). So she said although everything is "perfect", to be on the safe side I had to go on a CGT monitoring. The nurse told me to lay down on the small bed for half an hour (how comfortable is that with a pregnant tummy?) and looked concerned when I said no thanks I prefer to sit up (it doesnt make any difference, really). She gave me a funny look when she saw a contraction on the graph, and said "did you move?". It WAS a contraction and so what - am I not supposed to move for half an hour? Then, of course, in the end everything is still perfect and the baby is just fine but every week I have to do this monitoring for 10-15 minutes with every appointment?! :\: When I asked the nurse when they will use this in labour, she said through active labour (which can last hours). I was on it for half an hour and it was sooo boring and pointless! I will definitely stay at home as long as possible before going to the hospital. :(

Hi momof3boys! I have not met up with anyone as of yet, I work during the week and my hubby works most saturdays and I have a 4 year old son with no maid at home to leave him with. So its a little tricky meeting up, although I would love to!! Tanya im planning to deliver at medcare. The package costs 8500 dhs-2 day stay and so on. They also have a baby package for baby that costs 1500 dhs, including all the injections they will need and so on. But they really do charge for everything else, so best be prepared. When I was looking at hospitals, I remember City was 11000dhs, but not sure if they have a baby package too and how much they charge for that. Also im not sure if they have any additional charges for assisted delivery. Its best to speak to the cashier at the hospital, they will give you an exact breakdown, I do think I'm a little crazy working till the last minute, I'm getting very uncomfortable, I can feel her head down below. A part of me cant wait to meet her, but I will miss being pregnant. I think when she is inside, its just me and her, a special bond, and I will miss feeling her move and wriggle about. I guess I better get my bags packed soon. Have you all got names for your little ones?

Wow moonbeam! Am so impressed ur gonna be working all the way through! I wasn't planning on going on leave for atleast 2 more weeks but have developed a nasty case of SPD and have been in horrid pain for the last 2 weeks now...so decided to pre-pone and put my feet up! My doc also said she wont change the date from May 5th but said be prepared any time after April 21st :) I packed my hospital bag yesterday!! Getting excited and apprehensive at the same time so I totally know what you mean Moonbeam! You're having a little girl too? It was such fun shopping for my little one :) I have another check on this thursday...gonna be finishing 37 weeks! Cannot wait! Can u tell me more about this birth package, how much is it cost wise? Is it at city? I will be delivering there..my doc has already sent the papers but should I go now and sign up for this package as well? Would appreciate the help :)

Oh I wish I could start maternity leave!!!!! Although I have taken Wednesday and Thursday off next week to give me a bit of a break( and get all I still need for baby then) I will only start maternity leave on the 12th of May(Im due on the 16th, me thinks im a little crazy!!!) A part of me feels really ready for this and yet the bigger part of me is resisting it. I am feeling very nervous. I think it's because at my last appointment with Dr Wafaa she did a quick scan and she said that baby was measuring a week bigger then my dates. She was reluctant to tell me if my due date has changed, she just said she will not change the date as it can happen any time and we will stick with the original date (from my last period). I guess this is all great, but scares me coz I would rather have an indication of when I should expect her. And I know due dates are not an exact thing, but I think this comes from me liking to be in control. And yes I know I can't control when she will come. Aaarrrghhh this is becoming torture! Has anyone packed their hospital bags yet? Or am I the only one putting it off? Oh Lucy111 I'm not sure if you will take out the birth package or not, but we will and I went to find out about extra charges that are not included in the package. If you have an epidural its 1500 extra and if you have an assisted birth(forceps, vacuum) then that is 2000dhs extra. Pain killers afterwards when you are in your room will be charged. Things like nappies and bits for baby will be charged. SO pack EVERYTHING unless you don't mind them wacking it onto your bill!! I'm even planning on packing my own pain killers and so on in my bag.

Thanks Frazzle, Moonbeam, Tanya! Feeling so much better now about my upcoming appointment with Dr Wafa! I have been quite calm recently, in fact, I have gotten used to being pregnant now that it feels so normal? I have been acting like nothing's going to happen!! lol Is anyone else going on maternity leave? Mine will start on the last week of April. Looking forward to it :-)

Hello Ladies! Hows everyone doing? Am almost 37 weeks now and moonbeam I know what you mean about the nervousness and how time has flown! Lucy I had an internal exam at Dubai Mall Medical Center at 35 weeks...had a swab to check for any nasty infections..dont have any! And the doc mentioned around this time they need to check how the cervix is coz any sign of dilation can mean labour is close...nothing to worry about and I haven't had any discomfort or any change after the exam...so don't worry! All the best to everyone! Tanya

Hi Frazzle Like I said, I'm also with her and I'm still not sure about this internal exam either, but will see when she brings it up. To be honest, I'm really scared of her mentioning a c-section! I had a natural birth with my son and I also want a natural birth with this one too. I'm on the package, and really can not afford a c-section for the sake of it, unless it's a medical emergency. Did she want you to have a c-section with your first? Really nervous now.

Hi Lucy I am also with Dr Wafa @ Medcare and am 35 weeks (today). I had my son with her in 09 and she did an internal exam around this time then as well so it's quite normal for her. It didn't bring on labour even though I was already 1cm dialated at the time. At the next appointment, I had a sweep and another a week later (I was 2cm by that time) and I went into labour on my due date. Like previously mentioned, they don't like you to go overdue here for some reason, hence the sweeps etc as 38 weeks. If you don't want intervention, by all means, say so as they can't make you and she is pretty good at following your wishes. Admittedly, first time around I was desperate for him to come but am in no hurry this time - my only concern is trying to avoid the c-section she'll probably try to persuade me to have! Good luck x

Hi everyone, how are you all doing?, gosh time feels like its really flying by, but at the same time, it really feels like its taking its time! Part of me is getting really nervous. I just get these moments where I freak out about the birth and how close its getting. How are you all feeling???

Thanks all. Moonbeam - yes, please let me know if Dr wafa mentions the exam. I also would rather wait for things to happen naturally (and not feeling quite ready yet for labour!!). I think I'm exactly 1 week ahead of you - my due date is 09 May and we're having a boy! Daisydog, for stretchmarks, take warm showers (not hot) using minimum soap/gel and... rub olive oil afterwards - makes me smell like food after showers but it does work! When are you starting maternity leave? Id love to meet-up but I'm still working so if anyone planning something in a weekend let me know.... :-)

Hi Lucy111 Welcome to the club. I'm now 34 weeks(well will be 2moro) and I'm also seeing Dr Wafaa at Medcare. This is my second and I never had an internal examination done with him, but that was in the UK so very different in terms of medical care. Funny I was talking to my friend about this and she said that they do not like you to go over your due date here. the like to encourage things to happen a little before or on your due date. So if you had the exam at 36 weeks the baby could come at any time between then and 38 weeks( 2 weeks after you have the exam) At 38 weeks baby is considered 'full term' so I think that's why they do it like that here. I'm not sure about other hospitals and how they work it. I think it also depends on the doctor. You can refuse the exam, she can't really force you to do it-although I know it can be hard saying no to the doc. I would prefer labor to start naturally, only if I was overdue would I except medical intervention. Its really up to you, you need to do what you feel is right for you and your baby. My next appointment with her is next week Thursday I will let you know if she brings it up, I will also be 35 weeks at that appointment-oh im also on the package. When is your due date and do you know what you are having?

I just discovered that stretch marks have started to appear... it's horrible, have been lathering on the bio oil twice a day too!!! anyway else finding it hard to relax now...feel like i constantly should be doing something to get prepared and finding it hard to relax...so ready to start mat leave now :) how is everyone else feeling? hope everyone is doing well Sunflower and I are meeting this week on wed eve for a bite to eat, let me know if anyone fancies meeting up xx

Hello everyone! I am new to the forum, been following for a while but only recently registered. I am 35 weeks now and need advice please :-) I've been seeing Dr. Wafa at Medcare. Pregnancy & baby are fine, I have no issues whatsoever, but was told that next appointment will be an internal examination? After doing a bit of research, I gathered that an internal exam is not really necessary, could induce labour and should be done closer to the due date (around 38-39 weeks). So.. did anyone else have an internal exam done? Is this a normal procedure at Medcare? I am on the antenatal package btw. Thanks!

I know it is hard considering how far along you are, but do you want to change hospitals all together of just get a second opinion? Have you tried Medcare? Im currently there and so far i have not had issues, but they do cost more then Wasl. I mean if you explain that you just need another opinion, im sure they will give you an appointmant.

Hi Moonbean, thanks for your support. Am actually in search of a Pvt Gyneac now. Got in touch with Dr. Ekaterina, whom i was consulting at City. But her clininc is Al Wasl road, quite far for me, and moreover they dont accept any insurance cards. In the 8th Month and i really dont know if any dr is willing to take me up in this last stage. Anyways, still searching. Welcare & City, long waiting list. I suppose some clinics would be much easier to get a quick appointment. Braxton Hicks....not yet started experiencing. I started feeling the baby`s kicks in my 7th months only.

wow that does not sound like fun shijicecil! But I have read on different threads there that when you go to Al Wasl you don't really see the same Dr at your appointments, which can make it hard to get thigs sorted. Just like you are experiencing. I would say go see a private Dr to get some sort of clarity and know for sure where you are going. Good luck and I hope you get it sorted. Just wanted to ask if anyone else is getting braxton hicks contractions yet? I've had them for some time, but now they seem to be more frequent( in the last half an hour ive had 2) and I keep on getting funny sensations down below. Almost like baby has dropped down-anyone else or should I start to worry?

Hi!!!! Just like everyone, counting days to hold the lil one & gotta do some shopping for our lil one. Am a bit upset and worried about the service that am getting from Al Wasl Hospital. Have had 4 appointments with them and each time i saw different docs and that too after long waiting. The worse part is that, one dr. forces to have Iron tabs and in the next appointment the other dr will ask to stop. Now the same has had happened in all the 4. Moreover my sugar levels have shot up and they have done another GTT for me and but no response from their side. I know the test results as my DH works in Rashid Hospital. Am i supposed to wait till the next appointment for them to find a solution or put me on diet. I really dont know how they work. Am planning to visit a Private Dr. now. What do you all think. Any suggestions and advice would be of gr8 help for me.

Hello ladies How are you all doing? Freckle how are you finding Dubai? Is it what you imagined it would be? I can't meet up this weekend, but next week saturday is ok for me. I had a check up yesterday and it went well, I'm now going to be seeing Dr Wafaa every 2 weeks from now on, she said baby was measuring a week bigger then my dates. This makes it really hard to determin when I should stop working! But I'm really getting excited now. I'm doing a countdown evey week. I still have not gotten all my baby things together yet. With my first pregnancy, I had eveything all sorted by now, with this one I'm still like yeah I've still got time. When I had my checkup yesterday Dr was shocked by how much weight I had gained, until she saw my feet, and hands. I'm really suffering with very bad water retention, My fingers are so chubby and my toes look like cocktail sausages! Not a nice sight. So when she saw this she was like 'well that explains the sudden weight gain' i never had any of this with my first so all new to me. I'm also getting pins and needles in my hands and feet. I don't think I've ever felt so unattractive! But on the upside, she is now head down and Dr thinks she will stay that way till the big day :) I'm getting between 5-10 braxtoon hicks contractions everyday.

I am so glad we found something too Sunflower. I was starting to panic. There was so little on the market and I couldn't hack the hotel any longer!!! We are in Ghadeer. I'd love to meet for a coffee/tea/mint cooler ( they are coming out my ears at this point!) at The Club. I have gotten into the habit of walking the circuit around the Lakes every morning if you ever fancy it? Do you have other kids? Right girls....anyone fancy meeting for a chat and a coffee on Wednesday? :-) x

Hi ladies! I had posted on the original May 2011 thread, I'm due on the 14th of May, with our first. We have finally managed to decide which hospital to give birth in - Al Wasl, but husband is yet to get off his *rse and get us registered!! Starting to read up on so much and instead of feeling more reassured, still feeling totally clueless!! On a more positive note, baby kicking away and causing much fun at night time and the doc is very pleased with how things are progressing!
