Thank you Lucy! Very helpful info...mine don't seem to be BH as moving around or changing position hasn't made them go away...but they are still far apart and not very intense...so I guess there is still some more time to go :)

Moonbean, let us know if she offers internal exam or not in your next appointment. She did this when I was 36 weeks. Weekly Ctg monitoring also started then (and now she said daily but I will say no) Btw, BH contractions getting stronger is a good thing :-) The difference between contractions, apparently BH go away or change in intensity when you: 1. move (change position) 2. eat or drink 3. sleep Real labour contractions do not go away and get stronger and closer together! When you get a contraction every 4 minutes which last 1 minute long for 1 hour (411 rule) - time to go to hospital. This can be very useful: http://www.contractionmaster.com/

I know what you mean moonbeam! I am so confused whether it is real or false labour...but am hoping when it truly does happen i know! I had my first internal exam at 36 weeks...perhaps u wud have urs at ur next check...other than a scan to check baby's heartbeat and an internal exam u shud not have anything else done unless there is a true need for it...hope all goes well!

I guess I'm only still 37 weeks so still early for exam, how far were you when you had your first internal exam?? She may do it on sunday though. I will let you know. Tanya I've been getting some mild cramping and fairly strong braxton hicks. Sometimes I do think to myself will I really know when I'm in labour? I know ive been in labour before with my son, but that was 4 years ago and cant really remember the pain I felt. I do hope I will know. Lucy yes they maybe offering you all this because of your insurance, mine does not cover a single penny or fill so I don't want to ask for anything unless its really necessary. I have drilled DH about what I would like to happen, so he can support me as much as he can. Just stand your ground and stay strong. I wish you all the best and look forward to reading about your update on sunday we are all so close now....

Many Congratulations Shijicecil! Hope you and the baby are doing well :) Am past 39 weeks now and hoping its time soon! Its my first and I thought I wud be ready by now :) Lucy/Moonbeam good to hear you both doing well...but am surprised at the amount of monitoring both of you have been offered...I guess I am lucky with my doc coz she is doing only what is necessary and nothing more...had my appointment at 38 weeks + and all she did was a quick scan to see heartbeat and an internal exam to check progress. She did offer to strip the membranes if conducive but when she checked it was still early so decided not to. But looks like things are progressing now for me...have had some show since yesterday! and some mild off and on contractions...still confused whether they are BH or a sign of early labour! Counting the hours now...hoping things get underway soon! Cannot wait!!!

moonbean, she didnt offer you internal exam yet? She did not do membrane sweet first time but I suspect she did yesterday without saying! I cant help wondering if all these offers to induce, ctg, checks, etc have to do with me having medical insurance :-( on raspberry tea, apparently it has to stay in your system to start working. I started at 33 weeks and I believe it does work. I have stopped though since those strong BH contractions when I was on ctg monitoring yesterday.

Thanks for the link Lucy, I really appreciate it. My ribs are consistently sore and I'm struggling, baby is 3kg's already and every time I walk around I feel like my waters are about to break and her head will pop out!( If only it was that easy huh?) I hate to moan but I'm very uncomfortable, I find it hard to relax! My body just aches. You are so lucky to seem to be progressing through your labour fairly smoothly. I don't know if I'm even dilated yet, she has not done an internal exam on me so I'm not sure what state of affairs I am in down there. That does make it annoying, I just wish I knew. Funny enough my next appointment is also on Sunday at 9:30. When she did the first internal exam on you, did she strip your membranes or was is just a normal exam to see if you are dilated? And no in the UK they only do foetal monitoring daily if you are well past your due date( like 42 weeks) or if you go to the hospital saying you have not felt baby move for more then 12 hours. And in labour they monitor you every hour or so to see how baby is responding to the contractions. I'm getting rather strong braxton hicks contractions, I cant really say they hurt, but they sure take my breath away, and make my heart race, I have to stop so I can breathe through it. When I timed them, they were around 20 min apart at times and last just over a minute. I'm not sure if the tea actually calms down the contractions or not, last night I was having them really close together and after having a cupa, they stopped, so not sure what to make of the tea. Do I carry on or give it a break?

moonbean, for comfortable sleep, this works really well for me http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hQhHI5oH0WM I've been taking raspberry leaf tea. Not sure if linked or not - but my CTG monitoring yesterday showed 2 strong contractions over 100 (apparently too strong for Braxton Hicks, although I think they were BH as they were not painful and didnt continue). The doctor did an internal exam again and found I was 2cm dilated. They said I was in labour, although I didn't feel any pain whatsoever, the baby was happy and my water was not broken. I was about to be admitted to the labour ward immediately! Since the baby was happy and I felt nothing, I went home, slept comfortably overnight and nothing happened. This afternoon I did another session of CTG and everything was fine. She did offer to induce though (if I felt ready) but what's the rush? I prefer to let things happen naturally and went home. From today I was told to do the CTG monitoring EVERY DAY and she'd like to see me again on Sunday. Sorry for the rant ladies but I feel that they over-monitor things around here and I'm not convinced this is necessary. I dont think they even use CTGs in the UK, at least not as a routine? This does make me feel rushed and concerned although I'm only 38.5 weeks, very comfortable and have no issues. Obviously -I- will know when I'm in labour and wouldnt hang around if I have pains or if my water broke! Oh, and I live only 10 minutes away. I really prefer to be left alone! Is this normal practice around here? anyone else experiencing similar issues?

I'm counting down the days, and every twinge I feel, I'm like ohhh what was that. I feel like the next 3 weeks are going to go by so slowly. I feel so sleepy, but get really uncomfortable when I lay down. How is everyone else feeling? Oh and for those of you taking rasberry leaf tea, how do you feel its working for you?

thnak you all. Yeah am really enjoying my mothehood now. Cyra is not fussy at all. VEry calm and quite gal. So i haven`t had any sleepless nights yet. Only issue is that my nipples are not yet ready and she is finding it difficult to latch on. I keep trying and hopefully she should latch on soon. Now expressing and giving her. moonbeam, she was not kept at Nicu after birth. Was discharged the next day itself. But was kept in the incubator after 5 days as she was diagonised with baby jaundice. Now getting better. Please ensure that you get them checked her bellurumin level before leaving from the hospital to avoid a later admission. Well, all u people will be in my prayers and wishing u all the best. Ah forgot to tell you, I took epidural and was 101% successful. With love and prayers, Shijicecil

Yes Tanya, In the UK its only done if you have not felt baby move for over 12 hours. That's part of the reason I was so annoyed, I can feel baby moving, I know she is ok, so why make me pay 200dhs just so you can tell me what I already know? Oh well I guess sometimes you are at the mercy of the hospital and their routines! But I would kick myself if something went wrong after I refused to have the monitoring! Yes ladies the wait has started. Dr Wafaa has also told me that things could happen any day now, so just be ready. Lucy111 she gave me more or less the same advise she gave you. I'm just glad I've done it before so hope to recognise the signs.;)

Ibakari which doctor are you seeing if you dont mind me asking? If I remember correctly you are at medcare right? Why have you been told to have a c-section? is this the first you were told about a c-section or has it been mentioned from the start? I have been diagnosed with polyhydramnios and a borderline gestational diabetes. So the doctor doesn't want to take any risks. Due to the polyhydramnios, he has now got too big.

Moonbeam even I thought monitoring is only done if your baby is not moving enough, but I guess different doctors do things differently! As long as you and baby are doing well that's all that matters! Lucy good to hear you and baby are doing well :) All of us are playing the waiting game now! All the best! Tanya

Ibakari, good luck... Must be exciting knowing you'll meet your baby next week! Moonbean - yes she was 1 hour late and I was told to go on the CGT as it is a routine (which I did out of boredom waiting.. btw my insurance pays). This time baby wasnt moving much and I got a little concerned! When I finally got to see Dr Wafa - she said 10 movements in 12 hours is normal so nothing to worry about (... and the monitoring is 20 minutes? lol). So Tanya, I suspect there is no real reason for monitoring! Other than that, my weight, blood pressure, baby's size, position, weight, heartbeat etc are fine. She'll do an internal exam next week and told me to stay active, positive and keep a healthy diet. She approved my birth plan a couple of weeks back (natural birth, no epidural unless asked). She never mentions c-section. She said from now, we are waiting for the baby to come. Advice on when to go to hospital: "If I feel any pain - go to emergency!". I'm glad I went to antenatal classes and read enough to know the symptoms of labour!! lol

Hi Tanya Well the nurse said it was routine to have this done when you reach your 9th month of pregnancy. They said its to check on babies movements and heart. To be honest I dont see the need for it, you get strapped up, you can hear the heartbeat coming from the monitor, and have to press a button every time baby moves. In the uk I only had this done if I told the midwife that I had not felt baby move. Even I have to question if it is really necessary esp if I can feel her moving and being active all day long!! But baby has dropped and I can feel her head down below. Every now and again I get this strange sensation like I really need to pee. Part of me is looking forward to having her in my arms, but I dont think I'm ready yet! Oh I have a baby swing, but I did not buy it though, it was given to me by a friend. I never had one with my son, so really had no intention of getting one now, but since it was given to me, I took it. I guess its down to you. Have a look on dubizzle, maybe you can get a second hand one from there.

Hi All, Week 38 ends for me today and still no sign of baby! Few more weeks I guess :) Moonbeam why the foetal monitoring? I have been going for my checks every 10 days to 2 weeks after week 35 but the only thing my doc does is a scan to see heartbeat etc...is there any specific reason for this monitoring? I have my next appointment on Sunday...lets see what doc has to say! I also wanted to know what you ladies think of getting one of those electric swings for the baby? Has anyone bought it? Am considering getting one so any thoughts appreciated! Cheers! Tanya

Hi All. I had my appointment yesterday and also had my foetal monitoring done, thereafter, had a check up with the doctor and have been scheduled for a C-Section next week. I'm not really sure how to feel as I'd had my heart set on having a natural birth. Anyway, looking forward to meeting my baby boy next week.

I have just come back from my appointment and I was very annoyed! First she was running an hour late and I also had to do the foetal monitoring. I did ask the nurse if I will be strapped to machines during my labour, she said you can walk around freely, but there would be certain times when they would have to monitor the baby. That's ok I can live with that. What really annoyed me was the fact that they told me that the foetal motoring is routine when you are in your 9th month of pregnancy. I'm on the package, and found out after I had it done that its not covered! If they know this is standard in the 9th month of pregnancy, why in heavens name would you not include it in the price, and make the price of the package slightly more? I was so annoyed. They really will find any way to squeeze the cash out of you!! Dr Wafaa has not mentioned anything about internal exam as of yet,but I'm guessing that will come next week when I'm 37 weeks.

oh im at 9:15 but she is always running late so we may just see each other. I'm getting paranoid that Dr Wafaa is going to try and push for a c-section. She is very notorious for most of her patients ending up in a c-section. So fingers crossed and see what she comes up with.

Haha! funny I've just made myself a cup of raspberry leaf tea before sitting to type this!! I have always had braxton hills;););) since about 30 weeks, so I can't really say I have noticed a huge difference in frequency. But I think they do feel stronger though. But I only started drinking the tea about a week ago, so shall carry on and see. But I think I am getting addicted to the taste of it(i add a little bit of sugar) Lets hope it makes a difference I bought mine at the organic food cafe in the greens. They have a large selection of herbal teas there. I bought 2 boxes and im already on my second box! It was about 16dhs for a box, so not bad at all, looks like I will be going again this weekend to get more. Lucy Ive also packed my bag and I did pack just about everything!!! I'm sure they going to think im moving in!! I also have an appointment 2moro, just curious Lucy111 what time is your appointment?

Ibakari, there is a health shop in Ibn battuta (Forgot the name) near the Geant covered car park entrance. I bought 3 packs from them a few weeks back but apparently they are selling like peanuts so better be quick.

Hey ladies, I haven't been on for a while. Great to see you're all getting on well. Lucy111, aren't you lucky to be feeling like you could be pregnant forever. I'm just about fed up with being pregnant and just want to meet my baby. I'm not a very patient person, so this waiting-for-things-to-happen is beginning to get to me. Can one get raspberry leaf tea anywhere?

hi all, how is everyone doing? Tanya - funny, it's like our doctors agree to say the same things about dilation and the baby! lol I have another appointment tomorrow, lets see what she'll say! Moonbean, I have also packed my hospital bag now - followed your advice and ended up with a pretty big suitcase :) I am really used to being pregnant now, I can be pregnant forever and continue life as normal!! I am considering delaying my maternity leave as I might be bored sitting at home waiting! Not that I'm not excited about the baby, but I'm just not as anxious as I was before. It's difficult to explain. lol Lots of strong braxton hicks (DH calls them brixton hills.. lol) contractions. Could it be the raspberry leaf tea? I've been drinking 1-2 cups a day since 33 weeks.
