I have my first appointment with Dr Jennifer Kasirsky at Welcare Hospital in a couple of weeks. If anyone has any insight on her and the the care given at Welcare I would really appreciate it. I am due in February and everything seems so different here compared to Canada so I am quite anxious :(

I've just gave birth at the american hospital using Dr Braithwaite, I can't praise her enough. She is approachable, funny and is completely honest with everything that's going on. I had a traumatic birth and she was amazing through it all - go see her!!

Dr. Yuliya Mikhail is an excellent doctor! You will never feel rushed during appointments and she explains everything in detail. She used to be with City Hospital, but she moved to Cooper Clinic along Al Wasl last June 2011.

Dr. Rosalie Sant at Primavera. Do a search and you'll find her contact details. She was fantastic and I can't say enough good things about her!!

Youre in good hands CG. There were times I went once a wk for something or another I was (mistakenly) concerned about. You can show up if youre already a patient and you call/email first. And Carol (her nurse) always calls back same day. One thing I will say is that usually there is a wait. Its mostly because she really takes her time with her patients. Also, she works A LOT and often has to run out for deliveries. Was planning natural birth and had to have an emergency C...was very, very lucky to have her.

I'm seeing Dr. Helena Taylor too and so far so good although I've only had one appointment. I liked that she gave me her mobile number and made it clear that I was too call her anytime I had a question or concern. I also had to reschedule an appointment and when the appointment desk told me she was fully booked for a few weeks they said they would get her nurse to call to me. Her nurse called me back within half an hour and rescheduled me for two days after my original appointment:) Also, she was right on time for my first appointment which I appreciate because DH took time from work to accompany me and I don't want him sitting around waiting for half the day. She kept reminding me to relax and ENJOY being pregnant which I thought was really nice since I'm a Virgo and tend to worry and overplan everything. Also she said if there are any complications which I need to go to the hospital for to just let the staff know at City Hospital that I am her patient and that they will call her and she will attend. Comforting to know. This is my first so I need a bit of handholding.

I saw several doctors here before deciding on one. Dr Helena Taylor just delivered my little girl last month at City. I CANNOT speak more highly of her. Amazing...woman, doctor...really knows her stuff. Hope to have my second one with her:)

We have just had the most splendid care from Dr Jennifer Kasirsky at the Welcare Hospital. I didn't realize she practiced as a gynae in her spare time, we met her late on Friday night as a surgeon in the Emergency Dept when daughter was admitted for the removal of a huge ovarian cyst. I cannot speak too highly of her. Nor of the entire emergency gynaecology and cardiac team at the Welcare Hospital. Hey there. I just delivered 10 days ago at city hospital and I cannot recommend it highly enough. My doc was azizunissa, and she was great, as were the nurses and midwives. Had to have an emergency c due to foetal distress and felt so taken care of and comfy Thru it all. The only hitch isgettin an appointment with the dr the first time arnd , once get that they generally schedule you in every month . Have heard lovelythings abt dr elsa as well ! Best of luck with it all !!

So happy to learn the whereabouts of Dr Luthra! She was my Dr for a number of years and then left Welcare and did not know where to find her - very professional, no nonsense type. However, if this is your first baby and need to have a Dr who will take that into consideration and entertain your questions and your need for advice, I would highly recommend Dr Jennifer Karsisky (not sure if that's the right spelling of the surname) at Welcare Hospital. She delivered my DS when my Dr was out of town and I have now switched to her as my regular gyneco - answers all your questions, very understanding and supportive. What I liked most about her was that she has a very strong human side rather than just being your doctor. AND she came into the hospital just to see me before being discharged (after delivery) on her day off!!!

I would recommend Dr. Braithwaite at the American Hospital. I just had a baby four weeks ago and can't say enough good things about her and about the American Hospital. Definitely worth the six weeks I had to wait to get my first appointment with her!

Hi, I'm with Dr George and he's absolutely brilliant. I love him!! He will tell you everything you need to know and def don't worry about sounding like you don't know anything, ask him anything you need to know about how many times to see him or what happens next. You're in good hands. X

Hi babyrouge - ah, we're in the same boat! Let me know your email and maybe we can meet up to chat? I'm still not sure what to do, feel very overwhelmed and I don't drive, so it involves lots of taxi journeys across the city - or trying to get appointments on a Sunday as husband doesn't work. I'm going to try and see someone this weekend, as I've had a bit of spotting for the last few days and want to reassured that it's normal. I'm so excited, but trying not to be until I hear that everything is OK. I do sometimes wish that I was in the UK - I could be at the doctors chatting things through this afternoon! why don't u try booking in with ANY gynaec at ANY clinic... at least they'll be able to give u some advice on the spotting or any medications if required... better to do this asap and leave the actual obstetrician decision for a little later...

Hi Lec299, I also just found out I am pregant with my first. When are you due? Based on what I've read online and location wise (we also live on the palm), I'm going to visit the American Hospital, City and Medcare beside Safa Park to get a feeling for the docs and facilities. I know how you feel, it's very overwhelming! None of my friends here have children so I don't have anyone to ask for personal recommendations either. It's so hard to know where to start! It's so exciting though :)

I've been seeing Dr katarina at infinity clinic (formerly city hospital) recently and she is really caring, very accessible and really lovely. I did not have her as my dr when I gave birth a year ago, but I would have had I met her. As for clinic vs hospital, I think it's just a matter of ease really. Most people I know who went to a clinic did so because they liked the dr and (usually) they didn't have to wait as long for appointments. I do recommend that you pick a hospital that you're comfortable with, though, as if there is a need to use the NICU, then you want to feel comfortable you're in the right place.

Thanks abby_n_christina - I really do think I want someone who is patient and indulgent of all my questions. It's my first pregnancy and I have lots to ask. But a personal recommendation counts for a lot. Will look her up and have a think, thanks again.

i'm seeing dr. jhanki at welcare... she's quite blunt but totally professional... is an expert with complicated pregnancies so i'm quite comfortable with her even though she's not the pampering kind... edited by abby_n_christina on 05/07/2011

Thanks AussiePup, really appreciate that. Would you suggest I went to see Dr Elsa as my initial appointment to get everything checked and confirmed? Or to doctor closer to home? Sorry, so clueless - no idea how it works. If I was in UK, I'd just call my doctor. xx

Congratulations lec299 that is wonderful news. I used Dr Elsa in City hospital - loved having her and the hospital. Great experience even with DS having to spend 5 days in NICU. Some of my friends up this end of town (springs, lakes) use a Dr over in the marina or JBR for general appointments and then see Dr Elsa for the major ones only. I will get the name of the Dr for you and post again.
