Congrats Barmy Army, I can totally understand what you are going through. In my case, I'm similar to twinsmum as we conceived via our 2nd IVF and I have just discovered there are three sacs in there, the doctor said we should wait for another 5 weeks and hopefully one of them would have stopped growing, if not he would recommend we travel abroad and get them to make one stop growing. All three have strong heart beats and are similar in size but this is an absolute nightmare! I havent been sleeping and would love to know if anyone has been through this and knows anyone that has. I'm still yet to sleep since i got the news 3days ago. Any advice? Lajum, you really need to change your doctor! That goes against all oaths made in the medical profession. There are loads of healthy triplets in this world. Im so disgusted by this doctor saying something like this to you. Please see another doctor through your pregnancy as its supposed to be a positive experience.

What sort of doctor would advise you to terminate a sac with a healthy heartbeat? Thanks Derien, i thought it was just me reading this with a horrified look on my face!!! I am a twin and the thought that if a doctor had advised my mother to abort one of us, i might not be here or my sis wouldnt. its just horrendous. There are so many ppl who have succesful triplet pregnancies and births, ofcourse it isnt easy but WTF. Sorry, i know im judging but seriously!! Thanks! I thought I was the only one who found the advice of the Dr frightening. I wonder how he/she thinks to decide which one has to go..... Edited to remove part of comment. (I don't want to start this discussion) edited by Lilli34 on 05/04/2012 Thanx Ladies, You are reading correctly, Welcome to my nightmare! His exact words were, "with triplets their chances of survival without health complications is quite low, significantly better with twins. it would be too hard to go through all u did with the ivf and come out with nothing at the end of it. this way u have a better chance of two healthy babies" but that fingers crossed cos if the vanishing twin syndrome one of them may be struggling to get enough food so it might stop growing....I am seeking a second opinion tho, made an appt with another dr at AH.

Trublu I think I'm going to need your advice...I have just discovered I am pregnant with twins, my eldest is 2 and youngest is less than 1. I had the same reaction as you when I found out but am coming round to the idea now and will always appreciate what I have and what others spend so long trying for. Still early days so have to survive first trim, rest of pregnancy and then the delivery. Anyway words of wisdom are much appreciated :) Hi triomul. If you want to chat let me know and I will post my email address. Having four under four brings crazy days, but I just keep trying to look at the big picture. I have kind of accepted that the next few years are going to be pretty wearing but then after that, it should get a lot easier. I will have four children very close in age who can play together and will have similar interests (I hope). Plus, one school run in later years!!!! As with reynee11, my biggest challenge right now is my eldest (3.5 years - he is going through the whole "threenager" thing and just about tipping me over the edge. Triomul, one big thing that you have on your side now is that you have experience with newborns and babies. Gosh, if the twins had happened to me first time around I would not have known what was going on. Now I don't mind a bit of crying, I can just block it out and I am better at troubleshooting when one of them is distressed. You will be the same. I have a wonderful Maid who helps me so much, I found her 10 days before the twins were born. Do you have homehelp?

I had twins through IVF and can remember how excited we were at the 6 wk scan that there were 2 in there. Throughout my pregnancy, I was excited, then scared, excited, worried, in fact probably every single emotion you could think of. At 37 wks was taken in to deliver, pure relief that i had got to 37 weeks. Pure fear when I got them home. What do I do with 2 of them. You work it out, plod along, make mistakes, but you watch these 2 shining lights grow and grow and then you think YES how amazing was that. Good luck x

I cant say my advice would be helpful because your first 2 are still babies and its gonna be hardwork. But i suppose each to their own and as long as you prepare yourself for the worst then it wont be that bad.... Because i prepared myself for it to be the hardest time of my life because thats what everyone told me it would be and it ended up being not so bad. I was lucky though cos my twins were full term, natural birth and very healthy weights. The birth was the best birth out of all my kids LOL. Only 2 hours, no drugs and no complications. Now my twins are 8 months old and my other 2 are 5 and 4 years and seriously my 5 year old is the hardest work out of all of them. hope your pregnancy goes smoothly cos you will get very heavy. Well glad to hear about successful delivery....hoping I get to do the same :) edited by triomul on 21/03/2012

It's good to read posts like this! I have newborn twins, and a toddler... and find myself occasionally wishng I didn't have twins. It's so dam hard!!! All they do is cry somedays and I'm constantly breastfeeding. Going out is impossible atm, so looking forward to when they are able to walk on their own and sleep thru the night. Guess I'm still in that sleepless blur! Though sure it will be more enjoyable when we see them play 2gether and interact with us ;)

Hi Barmy Army and congratulations :-) I had my twins as a result of my 4th IVF attempt and went for the 6 week scan on Xmas Eve 2007 to discover 3 sacs in there! DH's jaw literally dropped and he didn't say a word for 4 straight hours which is unheard of. There were 2 strong heartbeats and they weren't sure what would happen with the third one...by 8 weeks it had a heartbeat but by 10 weeks had disappeared. Having spent 4 weeks getting used to the idea of triplets and reading up about what that entailed, it seemed a positive doddle to just have 2 babies lol! They went all the way to 38 weeks and were perfectly healthy - don't let people scare you with statistics that 50% of multiples come early, that still means that 50% are full term (which is 37 weeks for twins anyway). The early days were a bit of a sleepless blur but in hindsight it was all over so quickly. Mine are a boy and a girl and now 3.5 years old. They are very close and depend on each other a great deal. They also play together all the time which is when you get the rewards of having 2 the same age as you're not their sole source of entertainment! having twins is brilliant and I wouldn't change it for the world :-) Best of luck to you xxx

We have identical boys..... (who are mirror image twins)........ And fraternal boy /girl twins......the identical twins still to this day finish off each others sentences. When I am being told a story, by the time the four child tells me they say...... You 've heard this already haven't you?! Makes me smile just typing it!!!! That is really cute! They bring so much joy! Reynee, you are so right - it is a miracle! I feel a bit ashamed about my initial reaction when I look back now. I think I was just overwhelmed. I wouldn't change things now though. Having twins is super cool  Solo - are your fraternal boy/girl twins close? do they seem to share a special bond too?

And yes I did panic when I found out that i couldn't cope so I expected the worst and when they came it wasn't as hard as I expected. I also did the first 5 months on my own until I thought the twins were big enough to move here to dubai.

fraternal twins are when they are in seperate sacs and identical is when they share the same sac. Fraternal can still be 2 girls or 2 boys, they're just not identical. I have 8 month old twins and 4 & 5 year old girls. I remember when I found out I was having twins. I took both my girls cos I didnt have a babysitter and my husband worked overseas. I was already upset at myself for getting pregnant (while on a little holiday to see him while working). I went for my 13 week scan still disappointed in myself for putting us in this situation. (i was living on my own with the girls with no help from anyone and my husband working hard overseas to support us) Anyway, as soon as he told me there were 2 babies in there I was so happy!!! I had been given a beautiful gift and to me it seemed to be a miracle. The guy who did the ultrasound said usually woman cry when they find out they are having twins or more with either joy or scared. But I was just so happy and I also had my 2 girls going crazy in the room so had no time to take it all in. My twins are a boy and girl. The boy looks exactly like daddy - brown skin, brown eyes and curly hair and the girl is exactly like mummy (me) white skin, blue eyes... its so cute :)

Tru Blu, Fair play to you and managing your kids!! Im sure they will get along better as they arent in competition so to speak being the same gender. Are they identical or not? Myself and my sis are so different, nobody even thinks we are sisters. its hilarious! :) I would love to have twins when the time comes to have some babies, but not sure about all the work it involves! Hat off to all the twin mummies! Thanks. Its crazy days for me but I get a lot of joy from it too (I have to keep reminding myself of that ;)). They are not idential and even at 3 months I can see that they have quite different personalities. It will be interesting.

I didn't find out I was expecting twins until I was 5 months pregnant !!!!!...... Due to later scanning done at Al Wasl for expectant mothers in the 1990's here ( their then rule, and sexes still not to be told to parents to be) ........which I was asked to sit down for the news by the staff at the time, and told it was twins. I delivered only 7 weeks later, to perm 1.8 kilo babies so not much time to come to terms with things all happening. Two years later........ I was told at an earlier 10 week scan, due to medical reasons I was scanned earlier...... that I was once again expecting a second set of twins.......a few choice words were uttered, while I came to terms with things once agin......Two, two year olds and two new babies...... All born at Al Wasl....... and though a very busy road and days I don't remember at all as functioning on auto pilot. We have four great teens, who we have never had any help with at all to this day.....and are the best friends as well as sibling. It might be a shock but you just get on with things. I was 21 with one set of twins, 23 with two sets. And husband and I are still sane! Wouldn't change things for the world. edited by Solo on 06/03/2012 edited by Solo on 06/03/2012 What an inspirational post!

At least you found out now.. my poor mum had given birth to my sister, sat up and thought how can i still be so big, only then did the docs realise that another one (me) was still waiting to come into the world!! But the doc had already given her the injection for the placenta to come out, so needless to say- MAD PANIC. God love her!! Good luck with your twins. I do love being a twin, it makes you unique and special and you will always have a friend, even if you fight with them like i do with my sis. Its really a cool thing to be! :)

you're so lucky! I soooooooo want twins some day! Think of the fun stuff like dressing them up in the same clothes, and how close they will be! Also you get 2 kids in one pregnancy, saves you another 9 months to have another kid :D

Hi Barmy Army and congrats!!!! I have 3 month old twins as well as a 2 year old and a 3 year old. When I found out I was having twins, my then 14 month old DS was up on the table with me while the Dr was scanning me (he was actually having a tantrum). When the Dr announced that it was twins I nearly rolled off the table (I think DS ended up on the floor). I have to admit that I was not best pleased at the time. I was in shock and started crying instantly I think (it is all a bit of a blur). I think my reaction stems soley from the fact that I already had a 1 year old and a 2 year old. I was NOT expecting twins and I was already fretful of how I would handle 3. Do you have other children? if so, are they older? Twins are a double blessing, I can see that now and I wouldn't change things for the world. It' still hard though as I am kind of in the thick of it. edited by Tru Blu on 06/03/2012 edited by Tru Blu on 06/03/2012
