Hi there

I am due to give birth at Al Wasl in the coming week/s and am trying to get all my stuff in order so that everything is as plain sailing as possible.

Are we given the birth cert automatically or do we have to ask the hospital to start the procedure? Does it take long to get?

In order to get a passport I believe the birth cert then needs to be attested by the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs (well for the irish ones anyway so I assume same for all) - anyone know where this is and again what the procedure is?

Thanks in advance,
Curly

thanks guys, really appreciate the feedback - sounds straightforward enough (famous last words in Dubai I know but here's hoping) cheers, curly

That's how we did it: http://www.dubai.ae/en.portal?topic,Article_000567,1,&_nfpb=true&_pageLabel=home (cannot remember the fees, though).

From memory they did it all at Al Baraha, I don't recall DH driving anywhere to get stamps and they were only interested in the fathers passport. But maybe that's the baby brain kicking in and blocking it out!

the hospital will give you a notification of birth which you have to take to Al Baraha hospital where they issue the birth certificate, you have to get both english/arabic copies attested at the Ministry of Health and then the MO Foreign Affairs, you need to take into hospital your attested marriage certificate, both parents passports and visas. I think the MOH is at Al Baraha hospital and the MOFA is in Bur Dubai if I remember correctly, the hospital will be able to give you all the information, you've got 120 days to get the visa done after birth. It's not that daunting (I managed it with newborn in tow!!) However there is a company that will do it all for you if and saves you the hassle in this heat.. I had a winter baby so it was ok for me to drive here and there! http://www.babystepsdubai.com/ Best of luck with the birth!
