I know this is a gross subject, but need some advice. In the last 2 weeks, my 12 week old's has turned green since he has been EFF. Im using S26 Gold and he does seem to struggle with pooping. He can be quite unsettled at times and I think its when he has tummy cramps, particulary between 5-7am. He has no problems feeding and seems to like his milk. Occasoanally it does have a bit of yellow mustard in it, but generally its green.
Do you think I need to change his formula? If so, can you do it immediatly, or do you have to gradually change it?
Any advice would be greatly appriciated.
Thx

Thanks ladies, you have been very helpful. Im going to try with a little water and see if that helps. I really don't want to change the formula so will only as a last resort. Will speak to the Dr if the water doesn't help. x

Babies need differing amounts of vitamins/minerals at different ages. The formula gives a vast array of everything at every feeding. What they need they digest and use and the rest is excreted via poo. ie if their brain is growing they need more fat, if their eyes are developing they need more vitamin A, their bones will eventually calcify. Therefore even though their diet is unchanged their poo changes... Just keep a close eye on it (as you obviously are) and consult a professional if in doubt. I agree about a bit of extra water...as long as your babe is taking adequate amounts of formula a bit of extra water won't hurt in this climate (and with the a/c drying us out etc). Most formulas (the major brands) are 99% the same composition, so it is likely not 'a fault' in the brand per se. Only change if you are really concerned, but if you do change then do it gradually as sometimes babes can get a bit bunged up during the transition. Lastly you are the mum, if you are not satisfied then seek medical advice from someone you trust. You are a great mum.

Hi my daughter used to suffer with this a lot also..Advice got was to give her extra water as well as her feeds to help soften the poo .They told me the green colour was due to the build up.It took a few days but it really did improve .When she got to 16 weeks I also used to give her a little freshly squeezed orange juice Midwife told me to do this and that definetly worked>Its all trial and error every kid is different Hope it gets sorted

After mine changed to formula the poo def changed colour, to a greeny/yellow depending on the day (TMI I know). Also changing to formula could upset their stomach a bit, thats also why a bit of water can help too. Teething effects them all in different ways, the poo was usually the first thing I noticed, it can start to smell really sour too. Also usually followed by a chesty cough and runny nose..... and could be months before a tooth even put in an appearance!

Thanks for your reply HGAC. It was yellow when I was BF, and when combined it was sometimes yellow and sometime green, and now, almost always green, which leads me to believe it maybe the formula. He has been very dribberly and like to chew on his hand alot, so could be teething also. I didn't know that teething could effect the colour of their poo.

I just re read your post and see that it 'turned' green. Im by no means an expert, but the only other thing is green/smelly/grumpy babies/chesty coughs etc etc in mine were sometimes the start of teething.

has his poo 'turned' green, or has it always been that colour. To be honest, with three kids I have seen varying degrees of the colour spectrum, including green. Unless he is unwell in any other way its hard to say if the colour itself is 'abnormal'. But if he is having trouble pooing maybe he is a bit dehydrated, especially in this heat/AC, maybe try giving him some water too, to soften them a bit. I dont know about changing formula, or how to do it or even if thats the problem, I use/used different formula, but that isnt to say it is better/worse as every baby is different. If you are worried or he is getting quite upset, or his poo has 'changed', I wouldnt think it too much to ask the dr for an opinion.
