I had a c-section on Saturday and can't get any sleep. I've been sleeping on my back but it is killing me now all the way down to my tail bone. I love to sleep on my side but haven't been able to move really well to do that at night. How are you ladies sleeping? How long did it take to get you moving like normal person in your bed?

Hi Inza, as most people have said, the c section seems to affect people differently. I had lots of pain for about a week and found it hard to do anything. I also saw others who were back functioning much quicker than me and experienced less pain. I used my maternity pillow from mothercare to help me sleep as it supported my tummy if I was on my side and I used it to help me move. Keep taking the meds - that's what they're there for. Be good to yourself as a c section is a big deal. You will begin to feel a little more normal again but it took me two weeks at least to see the light. Hope you feel better soon.

I was sleeping normally as soon as I got home and no pain ( besides when I had a bladder infection 2 weeks pp). I took my meds religiously though. Panadol every 6 hours and prescribed voltaren tablets ( i think twice a day). I never 'waited" for pain. Those suppositories you have are really good, but waiting for pain could mean that you have some terribe discomfort before you feel better... maybe take some panadol as well and def consult your doctor regarding the pain. And as Plumie said, don't push yourself too hard...prop yourself with pillows if it makes you more comfortable. I hope you heal soon xx

Walking the next day (albeit hunched over) and sleeping normally as soon as I got home! However, everyone is different and will heal at different times in different ways! But please remember that having a C-Section is no different than having MAJOR surgery! It is important to be kind to your body and don't try to push it too hard the first few weeks! You won't win any medals! In saying that, it might be a good idea to have that pain checked out, as I agree with jwal - it does not sound normal?!

I meant to say suppositories and not pessaries, the suppositories I was given are called voltaren. The c section was done at belhoul hospital by Dr Ensaf.

I had a c sec at Welcare on the 12th, and am pretty sure I was sleeping on my side the 2nd night onwards with pillows. There was slight discomfort, but not excruciating pain. I had to ask for some extra Voltarin and hot water packs for my back for the first few days. I don't know if your case is anything to worry about, but think you should have a word with your doc.

I felt absolutely terrible the first time and could only lay on my side after 2 weeks - 2nd c section seemed to be not as bad and ok with pillows when I came out. Both times had brufen to take for few days after release and longer if needed.

inza, that doesn't sound right- have you told your dr? Did they not give you the strong pain killers? I would seek medical advice if I were you. I was just given some pessaries to use whenever i felt some pain, yesterday was my first day at home. Its so uncomfortable getting out of bed. what kind of pains are not normal after a c section and how long did it take for you to feel a little bit normal Can I ask what hospital/dr? I went to American and I was given tramadol/ponstan forte pain relief to take home. I have not heard of having to put in pessaries before. Can you get your dr to prescribe you some meds to take orally? I felt pain but not in my tailbone and not to the extreme, if I remember correctly after the 3 days in hosp I was not in this type of pain you describe when I got home. Obviously it is still painful but the pain should lessen over the course of the 1st week and especially with taking all the pain relief. I think you should feel much better by 2 weeks after but I would still get some advice from a dr and check for infection, just to put your mind at rest. Good luck.

I used my body pillow or any pillow to provide support and lay on my side most of the time. I found it more comfortable than my back. What medication are you taking? I continued to take paracetamol and neurofen for about 2 weeks post delivery as well as something stronger (name escapes me now) for a few days post discharge. I took them regularly to avoid the pain creeping up on me. It's very normal to have discomfort and pain. You've had major abdominal surgery!!! Give yourself a break and take it easy as much as you can. It takes around 2 weeks to feel comfortable walking upright any distance and another week or two after that until you're much more comfortable. Hope you're feeling better soon.

Geez, I knew my memory was sh!te but didn't realize how bad it actually is. I absolutely cannot remember how soon I slept on my side after my c-section. It can't have been too long as I can't remember much pain (if any) once home from hospital. I was very lucky with the speed of my recovery, so much so that I was doing bl00dy housework on the day I got home from hospital... must have been the drugs! :D

Took me a week and a half to turn over without horrible pain.
