Its been five months since DS was born and ever since three months i have been losing hair. At first it wasn't so much - but as days have gone by it seems to be increasing. My already thin hair ( thanks to water in dxb and my pcos) is growing thinner everyday and am scared I will go bald by time DS turns one :(

I've gone to my gynae and she Has done some blood work - nothing unusual in that.

Is there anything at all I can do to control this damage ?

Please help - I really dread having another baby if this is how post partum hairloss would do.

I was in the same boat as all of u ladies.had zero like literally zero hair fall pre-& during pregnancy but as soon as my baby hit 3 months hair started falling. I could see bald patches n was devastated so at about 5-6 months time I went to see DR.MONA HASSAN at the Dubai mall medical clinic based on recommendations on EW and Internet.her consultation n prescribed meds did wonders for me.it feels cliched but my hair fall stopped in one day!an I have new hair growth now!

DD is only 6 weeks but i'd like to nip the hairloss before it starts. Do you ladies use an entire Nioxin system or just one of their products in particular? edited by DC2DXB on 25/04/2011 I use the full range. Shampoo, conditioner and spray. i just used the shampoo and conditioner number 7 and the scalp treatment on occasions ... if anyone finds nioxin please all info on her asap.. i am using what i have left from my aveda now and its helping with the frizzies, i will soon miss that too... edited by julzandrews on 28/04/2011

I feel like I have this problem too but my youngest child is 2 years old. I am constantly straightening my hair with a flat iron so I am worried that it is because of this. I have a very full head of hair on the sides but very light on the top and front sides. edited by AnonDubai on 27/04/2011

This is a totally normal and physiological phenomenon. I went through it with my first one. And now with my 6 months old baby, its deja vu for me. My hair became so thick, full of shine and bounce during the pregnancy and now they're slowly and surely coming back to their dull, thin self. Breastfeeding is not to be blamed. Its just the hormones playing with the hair like the rest of our bodies. Hang in there, it will all come back to normal soon.

Hi there, I think so. It's near the entrance next to the Pharmacy if that helps?

I was in this boat too and remember feeling like I had a whole 3 strands on my head! Your hormones can take up to a year to rebalance so hang in there. I went to the herbal shop in IBN Battuta and got something for hair loss and then also went to my salon, Pastels, and they have an amazing Kerastase treatment. Shampoo, conditioner and a leave in treatment which worked well for me. In the beginning, you can use the treatment every time you wash your hair, and as the hair growth improves, you can slow down and space the treatments out to suit x Hello Clair K, can you please tell me which shop in Ibn Battuta ? Is this the one next to Faces?

Around 6 wks PP my hair started falling, it carried on for 3-4 months - I was VERY thin at the temples and hairline :( Just what I needed when I was have major body image issues .... it has grown back - annoyingly it's thick and tight curls that look ridiculous (as my hair is long) .. sadly I am told it is normal. I was told it would happen when I wean - I am still breastfeeding and I really hope I don't get another fall out when I stop. You will NOT go bald even if you feel like you will.

I am really sorry to hear this, I know it can make you quite upset. I have been looking into it so much before but am afraid that there is just no miracle product out there yet. As far as I found out in my 'research' none of the products can actually prove they help, except for Regaine, but if you consider this, look into all the side effects as they can be pretty bad. If you feel it is dxb water, you can try rinsing your hair with bottle water after washing. I have been using Nioxin after noticing thinning hair as well. I have been using it for 9 months now, and only start to notice a real difference now. So I am not sure if it is the shampoo or it happened naturally. I will keep on using it for a few months (it's already worth it for the great smell). I always bring Nioxin from home, been looking for it as well here but no results. Let me know if anybody finds out differently! Good luck!

Eellar - Google post partum hairloss In short hair grows and falls (about a 100 strands a day) - this is normal but during pregnancy - everything just grows - no hair fallout - not even the normal one - and we slowly get used to thicker hair Then after birth - things go back to normal and the normal 90 day cycle of hairgrowth drop off starts - hence we start noticing the major hairloss from around 3 months Apparently its worse if the mother has had a particular stressful birth (which i think is true for most of us away from our usual support systems ) My gynae also told me to continue to take pregnacare but more because i was bf and to just relax ....things would return to normal - which was hard ...cos my hair had fallen off in patches in some places (and i have long hair ) so it was quick distressing But Thankfully its true - it grows back !!! By 9 months hair had grown back completely - and I continued to breastfeed till 13 months old so personally i dont think the bf is affecting the hairloss So just hang in there - and consider this a chance to try a new hair style

I'm afraid mine has never returned to normal and getting thinner by the minute. I have really thick hair but now on top, its becoming so thin, I can see my scalp where I used to have hair. I started using regaine but haven't seen any results as yet - one month.

This happened to me too about 4 months after giving birth and lasted for around 2 months, around the time i stopped BF. It goes away. (literally!)

meee too... i am BFing too..but i i was in the states for the first 3 months, and just got back a month ago, and thats when m hair started falling out, i have not stopped taking my prenatles, and i added fish oil cause i think nursing takes out a lot more nutrients than anything else ... i honestly think the biggest culprit is the water... my daughter even started getting little dr patches on her shoulders and sides since i have been here. i am kinda freaking out... the best thing i did for my hair was use nioxin, but i was using my moms in the us, i really want to find it if its here.

Ellar, I was exactly in the same situation and in fact I had patches with no hair on my scalp :( It came back to normal-ish when DD was 8-9 months. I had a exec. check up done when DD was 9 month and my thyroid's came underactive (loosing hair may be one of signs too) - within 10 days it was back to normal without medication. My GP said it is all down to hormonal post-pregnancy imbalance.

Ellar, We are in the same boat. My gynae suggested that I keep having my prenatal's even now. DD turns 8 Mo soon. I had them only for about 2 months after delivery and that's exactly when the hairloss started. I just dread combing my hair now. It will stop once i stop BF. That's what my mum told me. :)
