Hi, I'm set to have a c-section next week with Dr Sant. So far I think she is great! I'm just nervous about having surgery. Does anyone have experiences they can share about a csection at city hospital? Experiences with Dr Sant? How was the anesthiologist? Nurses at city? Overall experience? Please share good or bad! Thx in advance! Oh and any advice on what to pack?

Hi, I have had five c-sections but not in city hospital. The excitement to welcome your new baby is a major booster for a new mother. I found myself getting this dry cough by second day of surgery, so for the babies that followed I made sure I was getting herbal medication from home, for some reasons unknown to me doctors were always reluctant to give me cough syrup and I was afraid to take matters on my hands and ask for the cough syrup from home, (drug interactions etc). Unfortunately I had this cough for all 5 c-sections. Other than that, make sure u get panties that do not press on the wound, and not tight, You want comfort. I read in one of replies about sweat, that is very true. You will need cotton comfy clothes so u can change into as u please. Someone to help u ; fetch and so on; it depends how the operation is to your body, my first, third and fourth operations were easy compared to the second and fifth. I guess it depends from person to person. A good posture while breastfeeding if u choose to is important and this comes with someone helping u position the baby till u are most comfortable. Take it easy u have plenty of time to get to know ur baby, your health and rest is important to get ur strenght back. You may be asked to start walking second day , the earlier u start taking steps the quicker recovery I was always told this. I am usually out by 4th and 5th day. I wish you the best.

ClarkClan just wanted to say that wherever you are with Dr Sant you are in excellent hands. She is brilliant under pressure and she would not tolerate incompetent staff dealing with her patients. I had her as my gynae in another hospital but I am a midwife myself and she was truly wonderful; always in control and on top of things. Let her worry about all the details; you just lie back and enjoy a wonderful birth! I hope and trust you have a wonderful experience.

I had a c-section at City last week (planned). All went to schedule, I had Dr Kavita as the anaesthetist (extremely competent and made me feel relaxed). The midwives and nurses were all excellent in my opinion - all offering different tips for feeding etc. They offered skin to skin without me having to ask, and the baby never left my sight over the 4 days I was there. It almost felt like I was having a weekend away in a hotel, the service is so good! A tip: if you have Du at home, you can register for 'selfcare' before you leave home, use the same login at City Hospital and wifi is just 5 dhs/hr. I think it works out cheaper than buying Du credit at the shop downstairs.

I had a c-section at city and the nurses were very kind - but completely disorganized. They left me on the operating table for over an hour after the c-section was finished because they couldn't find some sort of roller to move me to the transport bed. Two nurses sat there and chatted about their love lives right over me until I got fed up and moved myself over - not easy right after a c-section!

Dr.Sant is wonderful. She delivered my daughter by c-section at City 18 months ago. You are in good hands. I was so nervous about a c section because my first child was a natural delivery. The anaesthetist was a lovely gentle man who was also very caring during the delivery and was telling my husband and I now everything was going. I can't remember his name. I found the nursing staff mixed. I had some awesome ones and some that weren't as good, but overall my experience was great. All the best!

Thanks ladies! Definitely feeling much braver after seeing your responses! And suggestions for packing will be very helpful! I only packed a going home outfit as far baby things go so I would have been in trouble! And I never would have thought of mitts!!! Thanks a bunch. xx

I had a csection at city 2 months ago and was v. Nervous before...the staff and care during and after we're fantastic. Anaesthetist and theatre staff were great. Nursing staff in recovery and postnatal were excellent too. Agree with benoir on what to bring/ pack - I took my own maternity pads and toiletries and didnt need any of what I took. For me the day after the operation was the worst, it was all downhill from there and I was driving 10 days later. I have heard dr Sant is excellent so you are in good hands. Good luck!

I had a c section at City, the nurses and facilities were amazing. The recovery was extremely painful thou. I know for other women that wasn't the case, so I guess it all dep on our bodies. Re packing you don't need maternity pads/shower gel/towels etc. Just deodrant and face cream I guess?? Re baby, we didn't pack enough baby gros. Take lots of them, blanket for leaving, swaddle sheets, hats, gloves. They supply the nappies and change them too. I took 2 nighties but take 4 or 5 as you will sweat lots afterwards. Don't take PJ's as the trouser part will rub against your scar. Change of clothes to leave in, a nice big loose dress is ideal. Pref ok for breastfeeding access (if this is relevant). Don't cut the baby's nails (I nearly did!) because they aren't ready yet. Thats why you need the mitts or baby gros which fold out at the sleeve part. Good luck!
