Hi and congrats :-) If you a) do not have insurance *and* b) are high risk then I would def recommend Latifa. It may be a bit more than Iranian but has the best (and cheapest) nicu whereas I'm not sure Iranian can cater for high risk cases at all. Imo paying the higher price for Latifa is like an insurance policy in itself in that it gives you access to a reasonable but v advanced facilities should anything go wrong. Good luck x

dont know why you'd head home with all the reports of stretched midwives etc, my friend this morning posted on fb that with only a few weeks to go shes seen a midwife only once for basic paperwork! shes on number 3 so maybe they think shes got it down! but still scares me.

Hiya Dubai Newbie, Congratulations on ur pregnancy. I was in the exact same boat as you last year...I moved to Dubai and found out i was pregnant within ten days....I spent 6 months in Dubai and I went to The American Hospital. All in all we spent around 9AED (i ended up with UTI too :() I was told the birth itself is about £3k but we knew we wanted to head bak to the UK I think you can get ur self a health card and visit the gov hospitals, it will be cheaper but the waiting time is longer...maybe you could look into this. I'm pregnant again now too...also 8weeks, we are covered this time round but i still think we will be heading back.

Thanks everyone! Do I need to find a local GP before heading to the hospitals? Does anyone see anyone they would recommend? Thanks again.

My friend gave birth at International Modern Hospital as she didnt have insurance either and she was extremely happy. Another option might be the Iranian Hospital or Rashid Hospital? Give them a call and inquire about the prices for their maternity packages. They should be a lot cheaper then most of the other Dubai hospitals. http://www.imh.ae/Obstetrics&Gynecology.php http://www.ihd.ae/servs.aspx http://alrashidhospital.org

LOL me again! Just wanted to add that if I could I would actually go home for my birth. It's just not very practical for me but something you may want to consider

sorry just saw you said 8 weeks. My first pregnancy I had a scan at 8 weeks with Dr, then the Dr referred me to fetal medical centre next to city hospital for 12 week scan where they did blood tests for downs etc. and a scan to see if fluid on the neck etc. then I choose my OBGYN. I am doing the same this time except already chosen OBGYN just haven't seen her yet. Hope that helps.

First congrats :) Secondly do some searches on here for costs and opinions on hospitals. You can get different maternity packages at different hospitals and maybe these show on the hospitals websites? If not then pop and ask them and book in to view the maternity floors at the same time. Depending on how far along you are in your pregnancy determines what you do next. Some people stay with a Dr until they decide on a hospital package but you should decide pretty quickly as good OBGYNs have quite full books. I don't know anything about the Latifa hospital really apart from you should register there anyway if you don't have an easy pregnancy as early births need to be dealt with by them as most other hospitals can't take very early preemies. I think City can deal with 26 weeks onwards, don't know about others. OK that's all my knowledge lol!! Good luck

Hi ladies, Hoping to get your advice. I have recently arrived in Dubai and am newly pregnant (8 weeks tomorrow). Because I have only just arrived I am not covered by my work health cover or my husbands (due to the waiting period for obstetrics cover). I don't think it is financially viable for us to self pay at a private hospital. But does anyone have an estimate of what this would cost? So, my question is: Where do I go from here? I have had one scan in my home country which confirmed the pregnancy. Do I need to find a GP first (and if so, any recommendations)? When should my next scan be? And what are people's opinions and advice re giving birth in the public hospital in Dubai? I assume that Latifa is the best option or is this incorrect? Any help would be very much appreciated. Thank you very much!
