Why don't you request a blood test to check which vitamins and other supplements you actually need. My friend did this and they found that all she needed was selenium (or something like that) The rest she got from her healthy balanced diet. Think doctors here are sometimes a bit careless about prescribing vitamin supplements. There is such a thing as too much vitamins. So if you're concerned I'd have it checked.

actually starsouthern I think the opposite is true, your baby will get almost everything before you do, including iron so as long as the mother is not deficient you don't need to supplement and you would have to be severely deficient before it would effect your baby. Iron levels are usually part of the normal prenatal bloods and are monitored again later . If you are low or borderline low (which is common) then it is a good idea to supplement. Presumably there should be iron in the pregnacare too? Here is some good info regarding vitimins from diet and supplements. Truthfully my family is full of Dr's and many of my friends are too. All of them simply took folic acid and no other supplements but did recommend monitoring iron levels and eating well. If you are taking iron and calcium I believe it is important not take them at the same time. http://www.milk.co.uk/page.aspx?intPageID=101

Hey all hope you all are doing great. Just a quick question about what prenatal vitamins are you all on , my doc has currently since this week placed me on pregnacare, Osteocare and Feroglobin. I jus feel this to be a looot of vitamins , cos generally ppl jus go on pregnacare and that seems enough?? what do u say I was prescribed the same as you without blood tests and my father and uncle who are both doctors said to only take the pregnacare and the feroglobin, the feroglobin is important for your baby's brain development and apparently your body will keep any iron in the system for it's self not pass it on. They said the Osteocare is not needed as there is enough calcium in the pregnecare and if you eat pleanty of greens, cheese, yoghurt and milk then you will be fine.

Its hard to comment, maybe your Dr has a reason specific to you? Under my Dr's guidance and with blood tests, I only took folic acid (before and for the first trimester) and otherwise just ate well. You don't need the iron tablets unless your iron is low, the extra calcium (is that what osteocare is?) is probably not a bad idea, especially if you don't eat much dairy. My Dr told me that the majority of vitamins people take end up being wee'd out again. ;)
