My SIL told the world basically two weeks after she found out she was pregnant. As far as I know she did the dr test to confirm it. Yesterday she went for the 12 week appointment and there was no presence of a baby. But according to the dr (from what we were told) was that she didn't have a miscarriage. So what does that mean then? I'm thinking she would have lost it basically after she found out. Maybe if the baby didn't attach??
And she was so excited this time because she didn't have an ounce of morning sickness.

Sounds like a "chemical pregnancy", where basically the egg is fertilized but doesn't implant and your body doesn't realise and goes about preparing the womb for a baby who isn't there. I've had a couple of friends have this, one of them even basically had a false labour months later. I think the medical staff, in particular the sonographers need a lot more training in terms of the psychology of this as obviously emotionally you will still need to grieve as though it was a miscarriage later on, even if from a medical standpoint there was never a fetus. From a layperson's point of a view it is still a miscarriage, she will need your support :(

Obviously I don't know the exact details but I had a pregnancy where I went for the 1st scan a about 13-14wks also and sonographer (who was a complete cow!) said she couldn't see a pregnancy and all that was showing on screen was a big round blob, but I'd done 3-4 tests and got all the symptoms, even a slightly bloated belly. She was really horrible and to cut a long story shot I got told I had either never been pregnant, got my dates drastically wrong or had had a missed miscarriage (where you don't realise it has happened) but no sympathy what-so-ever. I got another appointment a few days later and basically got told by someone much nicer they thought I was m/c. As it is I did m/c a week later. From what I gather the baby was long gone (as sick as it is your body breaks it down once it dies) so all it was in the end was the egg sack. I was later told it was probably due to implantation problems which affects something like 1 in 5 women who m/c.
