Ladies

Can anyone share any tried and tested ways that speeded the process up ?

I've got Raspberry leaf tea which ive been told not to start before 35 weeks ?

I've also been told not to try the fresh pineapple until the last few days before my due date I've also heard accupuncture is good anyone with any experience with this ?

I am in the UK and the hospital have said they will leave me between 9-11 days over my due date before they start to get involved as they dont like to do social inductions !!!

I've got 6 weeks to go and really dont want to go over my due date

Thanks for your info ladies

:)

aaaaaa.... Sorry for being so blunt, but s…x works every time – medically proven :) Worked for me, i delivered on my due date! Could have also been the respberry leaf tea though. Didn't know about the 35wk rule and drank it from about 28 weeks.

Moonbeam, yep, as soon as I saw that the pump worked I had enough! Told my freakish husband to gets his kicks somewhere else and went and got ready for my night out!! :) Don't know if it had a contributing factor, but our friends and I had laughed more in the weeks prior to delivery than I have done in a long time, hurt like **** after a while, but keep the spirits up! I keep joking that if I didn't stop laughing I was going to laugh the baby out!

I heard foot massage. But what would I know. I dont even know what I am doing on this part of the forum  oh yeah... that's another one. There's apparently a reflexology pressure point that can help... and even if it doesn't work, at least you've had a nice relaxing foot massage (which you probably won't get again for a very long time!)

I read the nipple thing is a long shot and needs a LOT of stimulation, like hours! Or electric-powered help! lol

I had a sweep at 40w1d was already 1.5cms dilated. Walked 2.5kms, bounced on a ball for 2 hours, cleaned the house again, ate a curry, ate a whole pineapple, had aubergine parmigiana, had "relations" .. NOTHING. I read the nipple thing is a long shot and needs a LOT of stimulation, like hours!

I have a suggestion......I went into labour 2.5 weeks early last week. We had finished our shopping for the baby that afternoon and we bought a breast pump. DH, being as he is insisted on trying it out.......on himself first!!!!! Then on me! 7 hours later....on our way to the hospital! The midwives laughed their a**es off and told the world as they are convinced thats what brought on labour. Have a go, let's test the theory! Oh after reading this, the little light of hope that went out a few days ago when I gave up trying to bring labour on has just been flicked on! I'm home alone now and let me tell you I'm looking at my breast pump.and its looking mighty tempting....I feel like I have an angel on one shoulder and a devil on the other....... But when you pumped, did actually pumped anything out eg colostrum? OOOH so confused!

LOL - yes maybe should get the breast pump out!! Hello.Again.Kitty - if nothing happens I go in Sunday night and they do the gel I believe and keep you in overnight. If nothing by morning they sweep membranes and then I think get you on the drip quite quickly...seems to be the AH procedure. I personally don't believe bub is giant either, but it can be hard to argue with the docs! Just really hoping I go into labour naturally and don't have to worry about making that choice. Doc is going to measure bub on Sunday morning again and see if she thinks he is too big in which case she'll recommend c-sec vs induction...not sure what I'll do then as I have to trust my doc ... Anyway had acupuncture this morning and feeling quite crampy so fingers crossed something will happen before Sunday!

Playful "nipple stimulation" is meant to, so rigging up an electric pump would, er... yes... do it!

tell me about it....I am 41 weeks tomorrow and so over it! Have tried lots of walking, pineapple juice, raspberry leaf, curry (all I got was reflux) and 2 rounds of acupuncture (having a 3rd and final round today)...the thought of s*x is just a no go for me...can't even begin to imagine that LOL! Hoping something happens this weekend as doc wants to induce Sunday night at the latest and is now also talking possibility of c-sec as baby apparently has a very big abdomen which according to her could mean big shoulders which could mean stuck shoulders? Ahhh....!Please all send me some labour contraction vibes ladies!! xo oh, really just disregard anything they say about how big the baby is! I've got a friend who was told she was going to have a massive baby and out came a 6-pounder. Besides, they squish and squash and it's not like their shoulders come out locked square like an american footballer's padding. I was booked in for induction at 40+10 and really, really didn't want to get to that. Have they done a sweep? You should ask for one before the drip induction, because they basically just have a rummage (sorry, but it is) with some prostaglandin gel (the hormone that you'd get if DH was doing his duty!) and pack you back off home. I had my second sweep at 40+8 and gave birth 8 hours later.

My DH won't come near me to even try s*x, he thinks he will hurt the baby;) Men do so like to flatter themselves, sometimes! hehe hahaha!! tell me about it! I have to roll my eyes every time he says that! I mean he helped put the baby in there, the least he could do is help get it out!! But I do have to agree with you, I think its down to your body and when baby is ready. Trust me I never thought I would say this(and actually believe it) but all the hours I've spent searching the internet for tips and tried just about most of them(except castor oil) I am now giving up hope of getting things started and just wait for that magic moment when I realise I'm in labour. Every chance I get I'm visualising my labour and how I would like it to happen(power of positive thinking I guess) I have instead taken myself down to the bookshop and bought a couple of books, which I am enjoying reading. If she won't come out, well I may as well make the most of my quiet time and read, don't think I will get this for a very long time!!!!!

none... seriously. I tried EVERYTHING and I mean EVERYTHING short of Castor Oil every day past my dues date and ended up giving birth at 40+8, ironically, just as I got over a cold that got me on my due date. I think our bodies choose the right moment and that's about it. Any old wives tale that "works" is purely coincidental... but you can have fun trying!

Oh my goodness I'm so glad someone out there is feeling like I am!!! I hope this thread gets more responses.. I'm now 38 weeks along and so heavy. I really want to have this baby, I feel mentally and physically ready for this!! So far I've been eating fresh pineapple everyday and even drank pure pineapple juice = nothing ! and I've been doing this for the last week. I have read that evening prime rose oil helps to soften the cervix, so I've been using that. Not sure it it has made a difference yet, but will soon find out as I have a doc appointment in the next couple of days. There is some mixed information about raspberry leaf tea, some say start at 32 weeks, other sites say 35 weeks. I started to take it at 34 weeks. I'm up to about 5-6 cups a day. They do make your braxton hicks contractions stronger, but It will not cause you to go into labour. It only makes your contractions more useful during labour to help shorten your labour. Worth a try though. My DH won't come near me to even try s*x, he thinks he will hurt the baby;) My diet consists of spicy food normally, so I doubt it will bring on labour for me:( Any other suggestions?

Miss Smt - I really feel for you! I was 10 days late with my DS in November last year and I tried everything: acupuncture, raspberry tea leaf (up the dose towards the end), ate loads of pineapple, tried squatting as much as possible, went for looong walks, swam everyday and even gulped down castor oil...I did all of this during the last 10 days and nothing happened. In the end I had to get induced, which in retrospect I regret because it was painful and as there was no health concerns, I should have just left my baby to come on his own time. My advice is to try all of the above, I don't know that there is a sure method but I have heard of a lady who told me that castor oil helped her. The lady who recommended me to my acupuncturist in Dubai told me that acupuncture had helped her with speeding up labor.... but to be honest, every body is so different not sure if there is a ready made solution for all! Good luck !!
