Its a long story. I thought I must share the worst experience I had with the gynaec at Welcare Hospital in Garhoud. I was 5 months preganant in Jan 2014 when I decided to start my checkup with her. It was a good experience the first time I met her. She seemed very qualified and was a specialist in Fetal medicine and Ultrasound scan. Seeing her vast qualifications I became more comfortable. I had missed out my down syndrome screening scan and blood test in my first trimester as I didn't know about. Once I started with Welcare the doctor suggested as I am below 35 I could opt to do a triple marker test done in the second trimester. This is a blood test and few days later she informed me that I am at high risk. Since the results are just 60% accurate she suggested I do Amniocentesis (testing the amniotic fluid) where the results are almost 100% accurate. I went on 22nd Jan, she did a scan before the test was conducted and I saw very clearly on her screen that the baby was constantly moving and the heartbeat was absolutely normal. Just after the fluid was extracted a scan was done and it was a shock to see the baby turn to a side and heartbeat was falling drastically. When asked the doctor said that baby has gone into a sleeping phase. That night my husband and myself were thinking what went wrong. We were really worried. My next appt for anatomy scan was only on the 16th Feb. I didnt have the patience to wait till then. So the next day i.e., 23rd Jan I went for a repeat scan and to my surprise and shock the doctor couldn't find the heartbeat and any movement. She declared the baby dead. We just couldnt believe it. Since the fluid has to be sent to Germany, she checked with the nurse if it has already been sent. The nurse confirmed that it has been sent the same day by courier to Germany. The doctor was in such a hurry to cancel the test and she ended up doing it. I was asked to be admitted at welcare for a normal delivery on 28th Jan and after several tries I had a normal delivery on 31st Jan. My poor baby was dead. I carried my dead baby for almost a week dead. The doctor suggested that they can forward the baby's tissue and a part of the placenta to Germany to check for any chromosomal issues. We agreed to that. Today after I have waited for almost a month the irresponsible doctor says that the tissue wasn't transported properly due to which it couldn't be analysed. This is heights of irresponsibility. Now how can I reverse this situation. To make it worse, the doctor is absolutely cool about it. Please never ever risk yourself with this hospital. We had a such a big loss in life and we are still going through the mental trauma. This is purely medical negligence.

So sorry to hear about your loss, i cannot imagine the pain you have gone through with the hospital messing about with your pregnancy, however i personally feel its few individuals to be blamed here than the Hospital itself, am saying this as i gave birth to both my children in Welcare and i have nothing but praise for the hospital staff that attended to me and by the way both my pregnancies & deliveries were a bit complicated. I would definitely take this up and have the said Dr take ownership for the acts here. May God grant you the strength to endure....sending hugs your way... PS- i'm not much of a poster but felt compelled to sign in & reply to your post here.. edited by sweetnothings on 24/03/2014

To make matters even worse, Welcare has informed me that the chromosomal test of the baby which was conducted by sending the baby’s tissue and a part of the placenta to a lab in Germany could not be carried out as the it wasn’t transported properly due to which the tissue got contaminated. We were quite hopeful and this is what we hear after having waited for 3 weeks. This is heights of irresponsibility. Both the gynaec and the pathologist has washed their hands saying that we have done the right thing and as per the protocol and can give no more explanations. Instead of sympathizing with our situation they have been acting quite rude and indifferent which makes us even more upset. Tomorrow we have scheduled a meeting to know what actually went wrong. Why things have gone so wrong with us.

He is British but has been here more than a decade and works with a local firm. He has been an effective litigator in our experience. Please let me know if you want his details. edited by gopies on 07/03/2014 edited by gopies on 07/03/2014

Thanks all...we strongly feel that we lost our baby immediately after amniocentesis....till then the baby was absolutely fine...we didnt make an issue instead accepted it as our fate....now with this tissue analysis issue I am seriously thinking of taking it up with the management.. I hope you'll be able to find a way to have peace with this ordeal. And I wish you all the luck with this. On another note: there's a bloodtest called NIPT which an expecting mother can do which is very accurate. No need for the scan and amniocentesis (which carries a risk to miscarry). I know it's done on a rather large scale in Belgium, where the test is provided. For more information: http://www.downsyndromenipt.info I know this won't help you, dear OP. But maybe it will help others.

so very very sorry for your loss, and under these appalling circumstances. there is a lot that I want to say, but this is not the place to do it. you may want to make a formal complaint/ request to the hospital to investigate what happened.
