Yeast infection

Am 18 weeks pg, suffering from yeast infection from the past 3 days. Infection has given raise to not just extreme inflammation and reddening down there but also few big bumps (which look like pimples filled with pus, sorry for being gross).

It's extremely sensitive to water. And very painful to even walk a few steps.

I'm using some cream prescribed by my OB down there and taking canesten vaginal pessariies. Am also eating yogurt, drinking fluids.

Apparently, yeast infection is caused by abtibiotics I were taking a week earlier for an UTI.

Does anyone has any insight to share?

Thanks Pixie and Aussie Pup. I ve been using a cream for the abscess called fucidin. The last two days have been better. Swelling down there has reduced. I also finished a 6 day course of canesten but now worried about BV because of all the messing I've done down there inserting pessaries. Will check the swab on my next appointment on Monday but until then worry continues.

Ugggh I so feell for you, I've had it most of the way through this pregnancy. It's been gross. I had 2 different antibiotic creams including canesten and the only things I found worked was 1) no sweet stuff!! Days I had no sugar at all other than what's natural in strawberries, were the days I wasn't suffering and redness would go by next day. Days where I did want something sweet I used an ointment called dermovate provided way more relief than the others (avail at chemist). I've also started on a probiotic (tablet) taking 2 a day and thankfully this past 8 days or o on that plus having a sweet tooth for ice-cream I haven't had it return at all. Hope you can sort it out, it's nasty! :( Same here. I hate it so much! I think during pregnancy when your immune system is not so strong, you tend to get it more. Also since I am gestationally diabetic, I am more susceptible to get this kind of thing. I have used canesten and I would hope it helps. In the US they sell "Monistat" and I found to be effective, but they don't sell it here.

It's going really great, thanks. He's nearly here now. :) Yup. I wouldn't put anything up there with the cerclage. Wouldn't want to introduce any bacteria at all. I would even keep my hands and all else out. You can take any probiotics. I get mine from iHerb.com, which is where I order all my things but the Organics Cafe would have a good selection also. I just make sure that any supplements that I take don't have any included nasties. I use Healthy Origins brand but if you check the label just make sure there's no added sugar, preservatives, artificial flavors, or synthetic colors, etc. - If those are things you stay away from, I mean. I would look at your diet also. Make sure to stay far, far away from sugars and simple carbs and keep fruit to a minimum. Here's an idea of some things to do. http://www.everydiet.org/diet/candida-diet Keep in mind this wasn't written for pregnant women so you can do things like the detox but make sure you're eating along with it and not just juicing, for example. I do know women who flushed out infections by drinking buckets of water so maybe increase your water intake also. I also would ignore the herbs part of that link also. But the diet section is great and something to really focus on. Also think about any soaps or washes that you're using. I would stick to plain old water for a few days. And your toilet tissue also. Do you get tissue with additives like colours, scents, lotions, etc? I would use mostly plain white, soft paper to reduce the risk of infections. Finally, I would say get your lady bits out and about. :) Yeast thrives in dark, wet places so airing yourself out and getting some sun on your bits will help a lot. Not sure how practical the sunning part is but if you can lay on your bed with the window open or something. Don't get yourself arrested, tho! Lol. And wearing cotton undies will help also. Hope that helps. :)

Hi sweet lily, hope your pregnancy is progressing fine and thanks for the response. I have a cerclage in there. Am hearing varying versions of using and not using yogurt with the cerclage. Do you know if yogurt is safe with cerclage? What probiotic tab are you taking?

Ouch. Sorry to hear! Have you tried putting plain, unsweetened, live culture yogurt right on your lady bits? Have it in the fridge so that it's cool when you apply it. I have found that it is the only thing that works for me. I do it a couple of times a day and lay down while I let it sit for a bit. I also take acidophilus/probiotic tablets as well. Hope that helps!
