In an effort to ease the VAT refund process for tourists visiting the emirates, kiosks have been launched at airports and ports across the UAE included in the Tax Refunds for Tourists Scheme.
The Federal Tax Authority enlisted the company, Planet, to oversee the technology.
The new fully automated service is easy to use without the need for interacting with employees.

According to Khalid Ali Al Bustani, Director General of FTA, the refund requested is processed to the person's credit card after the transaction is verified.
“No limit is placed on the maximum amount that can be recovered if said amount is transferred to the tourist’s credit card, however, in the event that the applicant requests a cash refund, then the maximum amount is set at AED10,000 per day.”

The kiosks can be found at 12 locations, such as Dubai International Airport, Al Maktoum International Airport, Abu Dhabi International Airport, Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah airports, and ports across the country.
Tourists can claim back 85% of their VAT on goods purchased during their stay in the UAE.
15% will be charged in administration fees to Planet.
Travelers can also request assistance from one of the Planet employees stationed nearby to complete their VAT refunds.
