The demand for blood in Dubai is growing faster than the collection rate.

Do you want to give blood in Dubai? Unsure of the regulations surrounding blood donation in Dubai? Can you donate blood if you got the Covid-19 vaccine?

Here's our useful guide to help you make sure you know the guidelines when it comes to donating blood here.

The Dubai Blood Donation Center (DBDC) of the Dubai Health Authority was founded in 1986 as the major blood bank of the UAE that committed to providing a safe and adequate supply of blood.

Who can donate blood in Dubai?

To donate blood in Dubai you should:

  • Be in good health.
  • Be at least 17 years of age. Provided you are in good health the upper age limit is 65.
  • Weigh at least 50kg (110 pounds).

You can donate blood in Dubai every 90 days. DBDC accepts blood only from volunteer donors.

If you are in good health but take medications or have a chronic health condition, such as asthma, high blood presser or diabetes, please refer to DBDC's trained personnel to determine your eligibility by calling +971 4 219 3221/3389. Donor eligibility is determined at the time of donation.

Who are not allowed to donate blood in Dubai?

If you fall under any of the categories below, you will not be permitted to donate blood:

  • Are sick (cold, flu, sore throat or diarrhoea).
  • Have taken antibiotics within the last five days.
  • Have had dental work within the last three days.
  • Are anaemic (Iron Def. Anaemia).
  • Are pregnant.
  • Have had any ear/body piercings, or have had a tattoo, within the last year.

Other criteria that will be assessed at the time of donation are:

Hemoglobin, travel history, blood disorders, medications, hepatitis and HIV Risks.

What are the requirements to donate blood in Dubai

You are not eligible to donate blood AT ALL in Dubai if you:

  • Have ever used self-injected drugs (non-prescription).
  • Have ever had hepatitis B or hepatitis C.
  • Are in a high-risk group for AIDS.
  • Are a diabetic on medication.

Can you donate blood in Dubai if you've been vaccinated for Covid-19?

Yes, you absolutely can donate blood, however you'll need to wait at least seven days after your second Covid-19 vaccine dose to make a blood donation.

Where to donate blood in Dubai:

You can donate blood in Dubai at the Dubai Blood Donation Center (DBDC). As the UAE's major blood bank, you'll be in safe hands with them.

There are eight blood types, and the demand for each type varies. We recommend checking with a doctor to find out your blood type before you donate.

Will I know who receives my blood?

As a blood donor in Dubai, you can make a general donation or a "deposit" for a specific person.
