It originally falls on Monday, April 24th, but the holiday has been moved to Sunday, April 23rd to allow for the long weekend. Work will resume on Monday, April 24th.  For private sector employees who only have Fridays off, they will be given Saturday, April 22nd as a paid holiday.

What is Isra and Miraj?

Isra and Miraj commemorates a night journey by Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) to the farthest mosque, travelling from Mecca to Jerusalem. Following the journey, he also ascended to heaven, where he learned about the practices of prayer.

Muslims celebrate this night by offering additional prayers during the night, and in many Muslim countries, by illuminating cities with electric lights and candles.
