Bringing a Brighter Future
News from Sunrise Children's Association
Poor SLC students though (School Leaving Certificate - year 10) – being officially the final year of school before moving on to ‘college’ (yr 11 & 12) it’s the equivalent of year 12 in Australia in terms of pressure – although I never remember working as hard as they do – 6am start!!! They are getting up at 4.45am to make it to school by 6am for 2 hours tuition, then go through the regular school day and get home around 4pm. In a few weeks their after school tuition starts too, meaning they have a 6am-6pm study day at school then homework on top of that when they come home – crazy but that’s the school system here!
Anyway, we have now received 57 of the 74 children’s results for the final term which ended in late March/early April (depending on the class), and overall we were again very proud of them!
Key highlights below – please see attached for details of your child/children:
- All children passed (except 1 with a learning disability)
- 3 children came in top 5 in their class
- 12 children came in top 10 in their class
- 49 children improved from 2nd to 3rd term
The remaining 17 children, who completed years 8,10,11 have not yet received their results as they are marked at a board level rather than by the school.
The children are continuing to develop in so many ways, academically being one of the highlight of course. It still amazes me that the children are not only learning the content of all their subjects, but they are learning it in a second language (i.e. English).
Sunrise Team says "Thank you" to all sponsors for ongoing support which continues to make a tremendous difference to their lives and provide a wonderful foundation for their futures.
