Join RAK AWC and Make a Difference!

January 1st not only marks the first day of the New Year but also the first day of our volunteer month at Ras Al Khaimah Animal Welfare Centre (RAK AWC), where you can start acting on those resolutions to do more for your community.

When you volunteer you get back what you give and more. Just a couple of hours a week devoted to making life better for our furry friends can be an amazingly enriching experience for both you and the animals.

RAK AWC will be hosting a volunteer orientation day on January 14th from 10am – 1pm. There will be collection points in Al Hamra Village, Mina Al Arab and on the Corniche, to provide an opportunity for those without transport to also get involved. If you are not from Ras Al Khaimah you can still get involved as not all roles have to be conducted in-house, many tasks can be completed from home and in other emirates.

Shelter Manager, Ellen Quanjer, is really looking forward to welcoming new volunteers to the RAK AWC Family, she says ‘although we are funded by the government, with the patronage of His Highness, Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, we rely on volunteers to perform so many diverse tasks. For example, without our volunteers there would be no educational program, the galleries of our adoptable animals would not have their great pictures, or the great write-ups showing off their individual personalities. We are all really looking forward to increasing the community participation in shelter life’.

Current volunteer Tracey Arsenault is also looking forward to the orientation day who says ‘it provides a great opportunity for existing volunteers to share their experiences with those who are interested in getting involved. To think I could make a difference to the way people view and treat their pets is immensely rewarding’.

If you would like to help out in your community whilst making new friends and gaining vital experience join us for the RAK AWC Volunteer Orientation Day on Tuesday, January 14th.
