Natural Remedies for Acid Reflux
Acid reflux is a common health problem that can hinder your daily activities. It is uncomfortable and can predispose you to more serious health conditions. It is also known as “acid indigestion”, which occurs when the lower esophageal sphincter (LES) fails to contract or close, causing stomach content and acid to regurgitate back up in to the esophagus. This is what also causes the feeling of heartburn. If this condition progresses, it becomes Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease or GERD.

7 Natural Remedies for Acid Reflux

1. Apple

Apple is high in alkalinity, which is good to neutralize the acid in the stomach. Eating an apple after each meal or before bedtime can neutralize excess acid and ease your stomach.

2. Apple Cider Vinegar

This remedy helps to balance out the pH levels in the body. It is also an excellent aid for indigestion. One tablespoon of raw ACV before meals will ease your acid reflux problems.

3. Baking Soda

Baking Soda or Sodium Bicarbonate has excellent neutralizing properties to keep the acids in the stomach at normal levels. On tablespoon of this mixed in a glass or warm water can help ease your acid reflux problems. Drinking this, however, should be taken in caution because it is also high in salt and cause certain side effects when taken in excess.

4. Cardamom

Cardamom has components that can treat stomach and intestinal spasms. It is a natural remedy for treating gas and encourages the movement of food in the intestine. All you need is to grind 2 cardamom seeds and add around 250ml of water. Boil for 15 minutes and drink the water it has produced in order to get relief from acid reflux.

5. Banana

Banana works really well in neutralizing acid reflux. It is nature’s antacid and has high amounts of potassium, which encourages the reduction of acid levels in the stomach and aides in normal digestion.

6. Organic Honey

Honey is another one of nature’s healer. It naturally soothes the stomach and neutralizes the body’s stomach acid while balancing its pH. One spoonful of honey before bedtime will work excellently.

7. Almonds

Almonds are not only an excellent source for good cholesterol, they can also neutralize the body’s acidity, thus preventing acid reflux. A few pieces in the morning or before meals will put your acid reflux at bay.

If your case of acid reflux is severe or if it progresses, have yourself checked by a doctor.
