Mediclinic Hospital Receives Accreditation as a Centre of Excellence

Mediclinic has been recognized for providing the highest quality of care for obesity management by the US-based Surgical Review Corporation (SRC).

Mediclinic Airport Road Hospital in Abu Dhabi has recently achieved accreditation as a Centre of Excellence in Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery.

This accreditation distinguishes the Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery Center of Mediclinic Airport Road Hospital from many other surgical facilities as a provider of the highest standards of care to patients with obesity and related disorders as determined by an independent, external process of evaluation.

This achievement means that the hospital's Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery Center has met nationally and internationally recognized standards of care. Not all hospitals and surgeons seek accreditation and not all that undergo the rigorous requirements and inspection process are granted accreditation.

Professor Dr. Safwan Taha, Consultant Surgeon, Director of the Center, already recognized by the SRC as “Master Surgeon in Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery”, said: “Here at our accredited Centre, patients can expect to receive a holistic, patient-centered experience from start to finish."

"Our multidisciplinary team comprising endocrinologists, anesthetists, gastroenterologists, cardiologists, pulmonologists, family physicians, ICU consultants, psychiatrists, psychologist and clinical dietitians will be involved in carrying out safe and ethical weight loss surgery from the initial consultation to post-operative long-term care," he continued.

How does the SRC accreditation process work?

Health care organizations and surgeons seeking accreditation by SRC must undergo an extensive self-assessment and site inspection. This process includes physicians, nurses and administrators who are actively involved in the accredited program.

The inspection is consultative and educational, presenting best practices to help an organization or surgeon improve their care and services.
