Animal lovers in the UAE can rejoice with these new amendments
The UAE hosted an international conference on November 11 and 12, aimed to find a resolution for animal welfare in the country.
Several initiatives and animal groups attended the conference, including the World Health Organisation, to voice opinions and come up with resolutions towards various problematic animal issues in the UAE,.
The international conference aimed to discuss the welfare of animals in the following areas:
- Slaughterhouses
- Transportation
- Animal markets
- Animal farms
- In the wild
And the main focus of the conference was dedicated to the increasing issue of stray cats on the roads in the UAE.
The event also attracted animal experts from around the region – Jordan, Bahrain, Egypt and Saudi Arabia – to discuss rehabilitation programs and resolutions towards problematic issues.
Several local organizations attended the conference, including the Dubai Equestrian Club, Emirates Dog Owners Society and Emirates Welfare Society.
The resolution reached
As the international conference came to an end - an amendment was reached towards the Ministerial Resolution No. 476 of 2018 regarding the Federal Law No. 16 of 2007 and No. 18 of 2016 on animal care.
The amendment is expected to increase the welfare of animals to international standards, called the National Animal Welfare Plan and is to be in Q1 of 2019.
It will receive aid from individuals, private and public sectors to raise awareness and ensure the abidance of the law in the UAE.

- 2. Achieving actual action on priority situation
- 3. Analyzing and developing a policy towards a national animal welfare
- 4. Monitoring the animal welfare policy on overall health
- 5. Monitoring environmental and economic growth
