This session will cover

The UAE Labour Law of 1980 is still the main legislation governing employment relationships in the UAE private sector. However, the UAE economy and workplace is much more sophisticated and diverse than it was when this law was initially implemented.

The various regulations and decrees that have been introduced to supplement that law are consequently very important to enable UAE-based companies to continue to attract, properly manage and keep leading talent from around the world.

The more prominent initiatives implemented in 2019 include the following:

  • New DIFC employment law
  • Gender equality and multiculturalism
  • Part-time working resolution
  • 'Good conduct' certificates
  • Equal opportunities for disabled employees
  • New employee insurance scheme
  • General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)
