Bank customers must supply Emirates ID

In an effort to ensure all records are up to date, UAE residents must supply their Emirates ID to their banks.

A bank circular shared this week by the Al Etihad Credit Bureau is urging banks and their customers to ensure all records are up to date, The National reports.

By February 28th, 2019 all UAE residents must ensure that their records are complete with their banks to make sure services are not stopped.

Failure to supply your up to date Emirates ID will result in the inability to use ATM cards to withdraw cash, or conduct direct debit transactions as well as credit card transactions.

For new customers, banks require an Emirates ID card as a form of identity to open a bank account in the UAE.

But if you have recently gained a new Emirates ID - whether because of a previously lost one or a replacement - you are urged to update your bank(s) so they can keep a copy of it to prevent services being disrupted.

UAE banks require identity documents like Emirates ID from their customers who wish to take out loans or credit cards - however only 85% of over 4.5 million borrowers in the Al Etihad Credit Bureau have supplied their EID card.

Residents who fail to meet the deadline of February 28th risk having all cards suspended, and after three months, accounts and cards will be suspended completely.
