The 2018 Middle East Film & Comic Con Survival Guide for First-Time Attendees

The Middle East Film & Comic Con is here again: exhibitors are scurrying to get all their merchandise ready for the event while cosplayers are rushing to finish the final touches on their outfits. If you have been there before, then you will know what to look forward to and why there is almost a certain electricity in the air.

If you are planning to visit the Middle East Film & Comic Con in Dubai for the first time this year, then you are in for a great treat!

Here are 12 survival tips for all the first time visitors:

Buy your ticket before the event

Even though tickets will be available at the doors, we recommend rather buying your ticket online beforehand in order to avoid having to wait in lengthy ques and risking missing something that you really wanted to see! Tickets are already available from the mefcc.com website or from any Virgin Megastore.

Tickets are available for a single days’ entry or a three day pass and range from AED 110 to AED 250.

Know where to go

The Middle East Film & Comic Con is a three day event at the Dubai World Trade Centre which is located on Sheikh Zyed Road. It will take place from April 5th – 7th, 2018. The timings for the event are as follow:

  • 5 April 2018 from 2pm - 10pm
  • 6 April 2018 from 11am - 10pm
  • 7 April 2018 from 11am - 9pm

The Dubai World Trade Centre is easily accessible from all sides. You can get there by either driving yourself, taking a taxi, via a metro connection or with a bus connection.

Know where to park

There is normal, Valet and VIP parking available for those who decide to drive themselves. The multi-storey parking behind Sheikh Rashid Hall as well as the multi-storey car park next to Sheikh Rashid Tower have combined got over 2,000 parking spots available for the MEFCC.

Free outdoor parking areas are also located off 312th road, opposite the Convention Gate entrance as well as additional parking near the Za’abeel Hall 1 main entrance.

Pack water and some snacks

There will be plenty of food available at the convention centre but these stands are usually quite expensive. We recommend packing your own snacks and water. Not only will you save some money but you also won’t have to stand in busy lines waiting for food.

Always be mindful not to eat and drink close to gear and cosplay outfits as they might get damaged by accident.

Stay hydrated

On the topic of snacks and water… You will be walking around much more than you think at the MEFCC and the weather in Dubai is going to be quite hot already in April. Ensure that you drink plenty of water throughout the day so that you can stay hydrated. You can only benefit from is!

Wear comfortable shoes

Like we said, you are going to be walking much more than you think, and will possibly even be doing some running. We suggest leaving your high heels at home and rather opting for both comfortable shoes and clothes. This will make the day much more enjoyable and save your feet at the end of the day.

Leave your credit card at home!

Comic Con is guaranteed to have something at every stand that you absolutely cannot live without! From figurines to the latest game releases and a lot of accessories and drawings, you can easily be persuaded to swipe your card and before you know it, reach your limit!

But do bring cash

It is however always good to have some money on you. You might just find something that you have been looking for or want to buy something at a vendor who doesn’t have a card machine and do you really want to go hunting for an ATM then? It is always better to be on the safe side.

Bring a backpack

It is much easier and comfortable to carry all your belongings in a backpack rather than struggling with your hands being full. You will be receiving a lot of freebies at the event and most likely be purchasing a couple of things along the line as well. This way everything is safe and protected while your hands are free to look at and enjoy the day!

Plan your day beforehand

There is a lot happening at MEFCC with numerous guest appearances, competitions and much, much more. Study the program beforehand to avoid disappointment. We recommend doing this before you purchase your tickets so that you can decide what you would like to attend and when would be the best day for you to attend. Remember to keep some form of time so that you don’t miss any of the events that you would like to see.

Carry a map and schedule with you

Having a map with you make navigating your way through the Middle East Film & Comic Con much easier. Especially when you forgot about the time and need to run to get to an event that you really want to go to!

Take a battery pack for your phone

Trust us, you will be taking snaps and Instagram videos ALL DAY LONG! Your phone is also the easiest way to communicate with your friends if you get separated from them so rather come prepared with a battery pack so that you can charge your phone if you run out of power.

Lastly, enjoy it! Just head out there and have fun. Be nice to the cosplayers as they have put a lot of effort into their outfits and be courteous to other people. Everyone is going there to enjoy the MEFCC.
