Dubai Food Safety Department lets customers find out restaurant hygiene and food safety grade with QR codes
If you're curious to check whether the restaurant you're visiting is keeping up to the health and hygiene standards set by the government, you can now with just one scan.
The new QR code system, launched by Dubai Municipality, allows customers to see the restaurant's food safety details by scanning the food outlet's QR code.
Eateries across Dubai will be issued grades from A to E based on the inspection results of their hygiene, food safety, and any violations found. Once the rating has been given to the restaurant, it is mandatory for the establishment to display the QR code whether on the table, door, menu, etc. that is convenient for customers to see and scan.

The codes will be issued to various restaurants in the emirate through the municipality's food safety management app, Food Watch. Consumers can scan these via their smartphone devices.
When customers scan a Food Watch QR code, they will also gain access to that restaurant's details such as its accessibility, location, contact details, etc.

Enhancing restaurant transparency
Mariam Saeed Hareb Al Muhairi, Minister of State for Food Security, told Gulf News that the new move gives customers the tools to be able to judge whether or not they want to eat at the establishment.
The QR code initiative is expected to greatly improve food security and health in the emirate.
The eating establishments in Dubai World Trade Centre was the first to receive a QR code with an A grade.
