Tricky question regarding selling a car

We found a buyer for our car, agreed on a price, agreed to meet Monday at RTA to transfer ownership. Now it turns out the buyer does not yet have residence visa and driver's license. He still wants the car and we're not sure what the options are.
Is it possible that we just cancel our registration without him reregistring it? Then he has to park the car somewhere and register it later once he has his visa. How complicated is that process?
Other option would be for his friend to register it in his name and the two of them go to RTA later when the buyer has his visa. But will he be allowed to drive the car when his friend is the owner and he has a tourist visa?

I'm so gutted! Why can't people not inform themselves before the process? Now we already got a rental car for the next month and turned down several other offers on the car. Ahhhrrrgggg!

Thanks in advance for your advice!

remember tho you cannot own/drive a car on a foreign licence if you have a residence visa and you say that he has that, the police only reminded again people of this rule a few days ago.

Yes, thanks that's what we were thinking, too. But now it turns out that he DOES have his residence visa, but is in the process of transfering it to his new employer. He has a copy of his passport with the old visa which is still valid, but his passport is somewhere in the process so he doesn't have his original passport. Will the copy plus original driver's license be enough to register the car? Or does he need to show his original passport? if the old visa hasnt been cancelled and you have the passport then you can do it, if its been cancelled then no. if he is new he will also need an id card too which you cannot have as if he is changing visas he will have to redo with the new visa. it can take ages now to swap visas over, they do not transfer any more so the visa is cancelled and then you do medical and then you put in new visa etc, so it takes much much longer than before.

Hi Guys, having been a buyer for a car here without a residence visa I can give advice. My hubby just got a job, and we didn't want to spend 2 k every month renting. His residence visa was still being processed, and we were upfront with the seller letting him know we didn't have one yet. You can sell him the car, then he uses his foreign license to get registration under the export clause, and his plates get date stickers for two week periods. The insurance will cost him 100 dirhams a fortnight. He will get a month renewal, then he may need to use his partners name on the new export renewal, and swap the renewal names each month till his residence visa is processed, then he can change it over. Each two week renewal will cost him a few hundred dirhams, but it is still cheaper than a rental, and solves your problem. Once it is transferred to him not your issue- just go to the RTA with your buyer and tell them it has been sold for the purposes of export. As he does not have a valid residence visa it is the ONLY way to do it, unless he has a friend with a res visa that is happy to have it under their name until he has his res visa and has it transferred. If you have any more questions re the process, reply, or let me know you want my email addy for more details. HTH!

Will the copy plus original driver's license be enough to register the car? Or does he need to show his original passport? If you want definitive answers, wouldn't it be best to ask the RTA about this directly?

Walk away from the deal and don't waste any more time on it. Re-list and you will hopefully find another buyer quickly.
