Sorry DM just another question, did you have to get the radar reflector, vhf radio and GPS - like yours, our boat is only small and we never go out of sight of the land!
What a palaver! DH had to go back and fore to the Creek three times before all our paperwork was in order. The coastguard kept insisting that the boat had to be in the water to instal the device so he went back with a friend. In the end, they fitted it on dry land, then made him reverse the trailer back so it was submerged and the boat looked like it was offshore. Then they took a photo of it with the device fitted!
Now we can't fit the boat under our garage door any more and have to dismantle the *@* thing every time. Can't see us getting our 7 grand deposit back somehow ...:(
I have heard that you can get an exemption if you are not going more than 2nm off shore?not sure about that. It is my understanding that all vessels require the device.
Yes we had ours fitted. The coast guard came to the club where our boat is berthed and they fitted it, and then they put it in the water to test it (we were not there as we were busy the day they wanted to do it).
I cannot comment on the price/deposit as we are exempt, but I do know that everyone has to have it fitted.
The only thing I can say is that our boat cover no longer fits and we need to get a new one made.
Hi DM, just wondering whether you found a way around this or not? and whether or not you had to have your boat re-inspected this year?
it is the rules now that all boats need it, its been the rule for a year or so in abu dhabi and they will send you back to shore if you do not have one with a flea in your ear, not worth the agro, you will have to get it done.
