I know there have been many threads on veneers, but I would love to hear your personal advise on this.

I need to get veneers as my top front 4 teeth are not all the same size. I have had orthodontic treatment before and although it aligned my teeth, the dentist couldn't do anything for the actual size of my teeth - understandably.

I went to see Dr. Michael from Dr. Michael's himself. Friendly chap, didn't charge for the consultation or taking photos and x-rays and took his time with me. He suggested having veneers on at least 8 of my top teeth where as I only wanted 4 as the rest look fine to me and I don't feel comfortable with the filing and playing around with the other teeth unnecessarily. He tried to explain that to achieve the perfect smile, he would need to work on more teeth, as my smile is big, although i still felt that when my smile was at the widest, i could get away with 4 veneers or maybe pushing it 6.

He kept saying that his quality of work is the best as he uses the best labs in Dubai and in USA and hence more expensive. But when i asked him, what if my veneer cracks (not due to my own fault) would it be replaced free of charge, he was vague on the whole warranty thing. He showed me photos of his work, I know that his work was not photo shopped but although the smiles looked nice they just looked too fake and white. I have friends back home who have had their smiles done but look natural. Also i asked him about the filing, and he again was vague.

I am scared of going to the wrong dentist who ends up giving me bulky or fake looking veneers and someone who ends up filing my natural teeth down unnecessarily to make his work look perfect.

I have seen other threads on veneers with Dr. Madhu and other recommended dentists. Ladies, I would be ever so grateful, if you have had veneers done with Dr. Michael or any other dentists that haven't filed your teeth down too much, and you have managed to get a nice smile without doing too many teeth, please please advise. I need to know the process, how long does it take, is there anesthetic given, can it be done in one day or do i have to go for several visits, costs per veneer and do you get to see the BEFORE? Also have you had your gum line raised with lazer due to the veneer - he also suggested that for one or two teeth - in Dr. Michaels case, he uses some pen to draw a liquid on the tooth to show you how it would end up looking (looks 90% accurate to the real thing from what i saw in the photos). This way you know what it would look like exactly on you before you go ahead?

Thank you so much.

I went to the Dental Spa a few years ago for veneers - it used to be recommended on here a lot. I had my 2 front teeth done. They did such a bad job that I felt like a rabbit and it was uncomfortable to get my top lip down over my top teeth - seriously. Worst of all I had them done just before we went of holiday! When I came back, the dentist agreed to replace them free of charge but he did them with very bad grace. Having the veneers taken off was dreadful. The new ones were only slightly better and when I went to my regular dentist a few months later she commented that they were very big. She had to do fillings to build up the teeth on either side of the 2 front ones to make everything look more balanced. I was really hoping for a good job as I was very conscious of my teeth but after the experience I had, I am reluctant to try again with veneers. I hope you have a better experience than I did.

Out of interest, does the filing not put anyone off? I mean...what if a veneer comes off and you can't afford a new one? Are you left with a little filed down tooth? I would LOVE a perfect smile but that's my concern...

Hi There, I don't often post on here but I felt I wanted to give my experience of having veneers done! Mine were done in June and I would not look back I had 10 done as I have a very wide smile! I also had gum surgery because my front 2 teeth were extremely misshaped. You have lots of injections which don't hurt so you don't feel anything! The process is long. The filling depends on how many teeth - the main part of the filling was on my front 2 teeth. Mine were 4000DHS per tooth personally I think I would question 1500DHS as too cheap and what sort of quality are they!. My dentist was Dr Joy at the British Dental clinic on Al Wasl Rd - I cannot talk highly enough of her! To get veneers done you really have to be 100% sure and have a solid reason to get them done. My teeth knocked my confidence however I have a new lease of life - complete strangers compliment me on my teeth!. I will be honest with you the process is timely and can be painful at times - you can get sensitivity problems however you forget all this when you look in the mirror!! Good luck - I certainly would not look back and would definately have them done again! Brilliant detail Roadster - This is of great help! I think I will go to a few dentists and then pray that I make the right decision..Yes I am scared of paying less and expecting cheaper results, but hopefully as many threads have given positive reviews on dr. madhu, it would hopefully mean that you pay for the location and this is hopefully the case as karama the business rent is cheaper and hence they can afford to charge less...hope this is the case..i guess the quality of the labs they use is also in question so im going to somehow have a look into this. thanks again

[b'>Update[/b'>, just got back from Dr M, as I said he does not do Lumineers, but he can do regular veneers which would involve filing the teeth down of course which I unerstand you are trying to avoid. He quoted about 1,500 per tooth and mentioned there were different quallity options avaiable. I had one regular veneer done in Dubai elsewhere about 8 years ago, I paid more than that even then and it has lasted ok only needs replacing due to gum shrinkage. hth great - thanks for informing me of this...im glad he does the veneers at least...just worried now about the filing :( GULP! Thanks again for the Update!

I had 2 veneers done a few months at GMC in Jebel Ali by Dr Menhal. They were my laterals (either side of the front teeth) as my teeth were too small, and after my orthodontic treatment to get my teeth in the right position I had gaps. He did a fantastic job, and the tooth colour was matched really well. Irrespective of the dentist doing the actual fitting, a veneer is only as good as the technician who creates it (the dentist will usually only fit it). Dr. Menhal said my tooth colour was slightly tricky as it was opaque at the edges. He sent me down to the technician in Deira who sat and matched the colours and shape and everything. He had to use several different veneer shades to create the most 'life like' one. He showed me a mock up of how it would look, and it was fab. I am very very happy with the results and no one has ever asked if they are veneers, which is good as I wanted perfect teeth but not bulky Chicklet fake looking teeth! The price range was between 2500 and 5000 AED per veneer and I got the most expensive because it is the strongest and they were my front teeth. I also had the gum shaping done, because my gum line made some teeth look smaller/misshaped from what they actually were. But it was not with a laser pen I don't think. It wasn't painful and you just need to put something on it and brush carefully and thoroughly for a while so it heals properly. (If not well done or without proper healing it can cause the gum line to recede further and further.) Re Lumineers, I was advised against them for various reasons. Do a search and you will see. Everyone is different, I also liked the idea of removing as little tooth as possible, but in the end I didn't have too much of a problem as the whole issue was that my teeth were too small and needed building up! Good luck ETA - I was sure I only wanted 2 veneers as I didn't want to do anything to healthy, white and well shaped teeth, so he focused hard on making sure they were as close a match as possible, and didn't try to push me into having 4 or more done which I am glad about. edited by BellaUK on 10/09/2011 Hi Bella UK, This is great detail and exactly what I was looking for. I guess, I am only worried now about the filing - my issue is the 4 front teeth. All different shape and one which is thicker - i guess i can only imagine them having to file it down which is really worrying. When i initially had braces, there was a bit of filing done to other teeth and that was so uncomfortable and left me with sensitivity. Apart from that I was very sad that a perfectly good tooth had to be filed only to make it fit better and allow for the space to move others..i guess it had to be done.. Anyway, thanks for letting me know. I really hope to find someone on here who has had veneers for a long time - ideally work done in Dubai as that can only determine how long they last etc.. Does increasing the gum line cause receding gum line as well?

Someone further down this thread recommended a clin in Satwa for veneers, maybe try that. I was at Dr M's on Thursday and asked him, he definately does not do them, wish he did. Thats a real shame. Thanks for saving me the hassle of going there. I guess it is back to the drawing board. I want to go somewhere where someone has already had veneers done personally and has seen the affects last for at least a few years. I guess it can all look great in the beginning, but what happens next :( Do you think it is worth asking Dr. Madhu for recommendation?

Hi everyone, Thank you so so much for your quick detailed responses. From the info I have gathered here, all dentists will recommend a certain minimum no of teeth for veneers to make the smile look good...i only wanted 4 teeth for veneers so hopefully as per some of you ladies experience, the genuine dentists will be okay to do 4 UNLESS they feel that it will not match my other teeth. Fairwater, you suggested Lumineers - so I will also look into this one if the effect is the exact same but i can avoid the unnecessary filing. Also if any of you have had your gum line increased by lazer by the dntist due to the veneers to make the particular teeth match the other, please let me know. I will also go and see Dr. Madhu for the sheer fact that he is highly recommended. Any more advise on this will be great ladies. My worry is how long do veneers last...if it depends on the quality then how do we know the dentist is providing us the best one - we cant just take their word for it so how do we know.

kaash, I needed crowns on my two front teeth replacing due to an accident. I went to a dentist at Dr Michael's and another clinic for consultations. Both recommended veneers on the two teeth either side of my two front teeth, in order to make my smile 'perfect'. I too didn't see the point of having them file down perfectly healthy teeth etc etc for cosmetic reasons. In the end I decided to go with them doing one on either side, so two in total (in addition to the two front teeth). I cried when I first saw my teeth - I was that happy! Having said that, when I went to a new dentist recently for a check-up, she commented on the fact that I had only had two veneers done, not four, saying that was standard practice and that it was difficult to match at the front unless a minimum number were done, etc. She said I was lucky the dentist was able to match the veneers so closely to my real teeth. So, I'm not sure what the answer is, but thought I'd share my story - it seems it can be tricky, though as I told the dentist who did my veneers (and crowns), I'm not a model or actress so not sure I need to have a 'perfect' smile (whatever that is)! Still, it feels amazing to be able to smile confidently again.... Best of luck whatever you decide. Would only add that whatever you do go to a dentist you feel completely comfortable with, regardless of reputation, etc. m

kaash, I had veneers, about 6-7 years back now, not here though but in the UK. It cost 2k (sterling), the doctors there said (private ones), they need to replace minimum 4 teeth, to do the job properly (gives them more room to work with). Its a lot of money for 4 teeth, but its well worth it. It will last 15years if you take care of them! Now I cant stop :) !

We are great Dr Madhu fans and as you seem to have done your research well please go and see him for a consultation, he wont charge you and will give you his opinion, he is not into doing any more work than necessary which is another reason why we like him. My DH had some major work done with Dr Madhu and he is not a good patient but is now completely won over by Dr M. I think you will find that his chargeds will considerably lower than the Jumeira clinics. I called him last week as I chipped a front tooth and needed it sorting quickly as we had a social event at the weekend, he was fully booked but said come in anyway and he squeezed me, did two XRays and fixed my tooth all in 45 minutes and I paid Dhs.350. Go see him and let us know what you think, he knows he gets lots of recommendations on here and he is very flattered, such a lovely genuine guy.
