Have a poorly girl today andjust wanted some expert advice. DD has just turned 3, woke up crying with a sore tummy and says it hurts, thought perhaps was trapped wind/constipation. We have now sat in toilet for about 30mins and am worried as she doesn't seem to be peeing either....but still crying, gets very upset if I try to move her away from toilet too. Hasnt drunk lots, am trying but she doesnt want to eat or drink (very unusal for her), guess my question is....how long is too long with no pee and what point would u consult Doc??

When i ask her, she tells me tummy hurts and she wants to pee / poo....everything else she says seems to be in answer to me prompting her?

Oh and temp is slightly raised but not too high....am keeping an eye on that

Just back from Doctor and they've taken a urine sample as suspect is a urine infection.....just waiting for the results to be phoned through to us (hopefully tonight). They also gave us some pretty strong drugs for her temp so as a result she perked up quite quickly while we were there although is getting a bit tired and grumpy now. They didn't think was anything else but if not urine infection they might do few more tests to see why temp was so high....I feel better though as she seems much improved :) Until we get the results back not much else to do other than the usual calpol for temp!! Thanks all

also might be a good idea to take a urine sample in with you to rule out UTI (bladder infection) My toddler just had a tummy bug, started with very mild fever and sore tummy then a few days crampy diarrhea, we did a stool culture and it was viral so nothing much to be done :(

Thanks both....did make appt with Doc tomorrow (earliest I could get!!!). But following a short bout of calm, her temp has now shot up and we've had another spell of full on crying in pain so have managed to get an appt at another Docs.....may well be over-reacting but better safe than sorry and she is generally relatively healthy that when she is sick it really hits her (and me). Haven't heard of anything going round her nursery but will keep you posted once we've been to Docs - just waiting on DH picking us up now (one handed typing while cuddling will soon be an area of expertise) Aw, I think that you've done the right thing taking her now.

SL13 my DD is exactly the same today! She's moaning in pain and wants lots of cuddles. She had slight diarrea earlier this morning but is now struggling to go but keeps holding her tummy. I'm just going to stay home with her today & give her cuddles along with plenty of water. If she's the same tomorrow i'll ask for an appointment at docs. I've also asked her nursery if any of the other kids are off today so we can determine what the cause is. Hope yours is better soon

Personally I'd go by how upset she was or how much pain she was in rather than how long since she pee'd or pooped. If you do go, let the dr's know beforehand that you want to take her straight to their toilet and wait there to see the Dr rather than having her in the waiting room. "Sell " it to her saying it's a chance to pee /poo in the Dr's toilet - WOW! Good luck!
